Computerized

 Computerized

Looking down inside of me
I find that I have learned
There’s a need hidden deep
A fire that’s always burned

I have always been kind of slow
My mind walks while others run
A joy that knows no bounds
And a fear that’s like a gun

While others grasp a concept
From me it seems to hide
Only to surface much later on
To push my thoughts aside

Some grasp the awesome whole
A jigsaw puzzle I find
Each piece to be fitted with care
That complicates my mind

Eventually I sit and stare
Till a flash will blind my eyes
The puzzle will be complete
And my mind fairly flies

I know not why it works like this
I struggled all through school
Then there in my later years
I discovered I wasn’t a fool

The pieces all came together
Starting with the softest glow
To grow into nova heat
And finally I know

The thirst has always been there
But the computer is old and slow
Instead of being transistorized
I have vacuum tubes that glow

Rett,

thank you for posting this one, it was such a pleausure to read! just one part where I stumbled a bit: I felt as if lines 5 and 6 somehow disturb the flow of the read. maybe it was just me... would you consider something like: I always have been kind of slow My mind walks while others run just a humble suggestion, apart from that, a fine write, sir! your Proprietress

Thanks Pro!

Glad you liked it. As for the stumble, right you are. I have instituted changes that I believe fixes the problem. Both the line suggestions were spot on. I appreciate it very much. Respectfully, Rett: "When all is said and done, Shut up and relax!" Rett

Rett,

this was sad and funny at the same time, I read it over and over and it felt as if I was thinking it. This stanza is just like me: "The thirst has always been there But the computer is old and slow Instead of being transistorized I have vacuum tubes that glow" Great job in your descriptions!!! thanks, Eddie

Thanks Eddie

I've been that way all my life. Things that people pick up easily I struggle with for a good while then finally it works it's way into my brain and it all comes together. That description was me all over my friend. Glad I'm not alone. Respectfully, Rett: "When all is said and done, Shut up and relax!" Rett

for

a guy that struggles with concepts and things that evade other people you seem to have gotten this act down very well indeed--what masterful rhyme scheme you've got! those who struggle with what is common to others often end up transcending them. good job. gb

Thank you GB

I do appreciate it. I have worked at it too many years to count. *L* I am actually more comfortable with this style than any other although I try to break out of the mold once in a while. It is work, but I find it satisfying when it comes across. Some are so bad when I get through with them I have to spray the computer to keep it from stinking. I can sympathize...I also work hard at grasping concepts that others seem to not even have to think about. I really like the last four lines...me to a T! Sincerely Debbie

I write a lot

but the ones I write may be a week or a month before they get posted, I do okay in language and history, build my own computers, am a decent gardener, good cook, fairly good carpenter etc.. but learning does not come easy for me. I struggle and struggle before I finally get it through my head. I have been that way all my life. What most people breeze through, I struggle with until I finally break through. algebra is one thing I have never been able to learn. My brain absolutely short circuits on it and my wife and youngest son can do it in their heads. My oldest son is a fine musician, but my daughter took after me poor thing.
