Nostalgia

Nostalgia they say, is a thing of the past

They don’t make them like that

If they do they don’t last

They used to be bolder, bigger and longer

Harder and tougher and better and stronger

They would cost half as much

And be larger they say

You could buy twice as much

With half as much pay

Now when I was just a kid,

A long time ago

I’d wake up in the morning

Streets covered in snow

With stale bread for breakfast

And dripping for tea

Sure, times were tough

But it never hurt me

Now the food doesn’t taste

The way that it should

It costs us much more

But the taste’s not as good

Would I go back to that time long ago?

There’s only one answer

It would have to be no!

memories

when you start talking like that it is a sure thing that you are getting older, so I wont bore you with the outside toilet and the metal bath hanging on door and all the things that make me seem old LOL Well written and a walk into the past Yours Ian.T

Ian, it would appear that

Ian, it would appear that you and I are of a similar age, I well remember the old tin bath and we had our toilet at the end of the garden which ive been told was an earth closet, I remember waking up in winter to find frost inside the house, it was sheer luxury when we finally moved to a modern house with an inside toilet and hot water too. As they say on Monty Python "tell the kids that today and they won't believe you". thanks for reading regards John

Nice write enjoyed the trip back to your days as a kid. It reminded me of my days as a kid when we live in old board houses with cracks, no running water or plumbing. And my answer to go back would also be no. Respectfully Yours, Barbara

Barbara, looking back life

Barbara, looking back life was quite hard, never enough money for necesseties let alone luxuries, nowadays we have all the mod cons and still have a bit of money left after all the bills are paid. Regards John

You have a gift, my friend,

You have a gift, my friend, and time makes no amends. I look forward to looking inside your mind...you change the living room often enough... ;-) ~A "Speech is blasphemy. Silence a lie. Above speech and silence is a way out." I-tuan.

‘Survive” is the right

'Survive" is the right word here, John, sometimes I wonder how I *survived*, went through a lot of hell, (as we all have, and it's all our own *personal* hell, isn't it?), a lot of it could have been my experience of kinder and gentler life if I weren't standing in my own way, so to speak. Happy New Year all, hopefully we will have learned *compassion* on a world-wide scale... ~A "Speech is blasphemy. Silence a lie. Above speech and silence is a way out." I-tuan.
