The Nowness of Now

In pure consciousness
All time dissolves except
Time as a manifestation
Of the all powerful present.
To be alive is to experience
The electric incandescence
Of the ubiquitous ‘now’
Burning like an un-flickering flame
Of a candle which dispels
Darkness in its surrounds.
In that globule of light
The essence of life is held
Firmly encompassed -
Transcending materiality
In a glow of joyful
Emancipation

Pure consiousness

How do you reach this state, which you seem to have experienced yourself? Are you a Buddhist? Do you do yoga? Do you write poetry by candlelight? This is a good little poem! Best wishes, Robert.

Thank you Robert

I really appreciate your insight. Glad that you feel the way you do about the poem. Am I a Buddhist? No but I have been influenced a great deal by it. Do I do yoga? Yes - a bit of it. Do I write by candle light? No. (I must admit though that I love the effect of candle light - Nostradamusish)I just write from the heart. Cheers .... Leonard

Leonard...

I had a dream last night, I've been waiting all day to tell you about it... Ahead of me and to each side there was the beauty of Now, birds singing, flowers and smiling sun... and behind me was a vast melting of memories and yesterdays... my first thought was this poem... the dissolving time and the glory of Now! did I say how much I loved this write! Your dream is absolutly beautiful, enlightening and profound too. This is what the "Now" is all about: the ability to see, feel, touch, taste without ascribing words or meanings to it. Be it birds singing, water flowing, the fragrance of flowers, the feel of the sun's warmth on your skin, the taste of nectar, the texture of a flower or prowess of a cat. Have you ever tried this? The next time you witness a spectale of nature try experiencing it without dressing it up with a name or meaning. Just experience it as a presence as "The now in all its nowness" I absolutely love the dream and wish I could have a similar experience. These are things no one can take away from you. These are the things that are yours and yours alone. If you think about it, our only true possessions are our experiences. I am really honoured that you love this poem and happy too that it has touched you so deeply. As I have said before, you are not only a good poet but a discerning reader. It is in the responses of people like you that an artist can find true fulfillment - a fulfillment that all the money in the world couldn't buy. Your friend ... Leonard

On second thoughts...

Having re-read this poem, I find myself wondering if I too occasionally reach a state of pure consciousness. Perhaps when I go hiking in the mountains with my wife and friends, and after a couple of hours we stop to eat our sandwiches and quietly contemplate a glorious view. But this state may be like love - it can be hard to know when you're in it and when you are not...

I am sure you have Robert

The experience is accessible to everyone who genuinely tries. The situations you describe here are the perfect circumstances to engender just such an experience. Thanks for sharing ... Leonard

Leonard

Yes this is simular to the broken wing, but much more direct and intence, the state of being, and then the state of having been, is quite a jump, where the inner self becomes the prime figure, where feelings are pure, and the learning is of the progress of the soul to a higher level, the love portrayed then is unconditional and infinite, reaching everyone and everything. Your two pieces are well written and as close as you can think to your progression to higher things, it is now the ability to live here, and now, for the time you are to spend at this level. Yours Ian.T

Thank you Ian

Your interpretation: "the state of being and then of having been" makes me feel confident that I have done a pretty good job in trying to communicate my feelings. I am really happy that you have read and commented. Thanks a million ... Leonard
