santa claus arrives in cleveland

First Mark Kuhar's poem, a Cleveland poet and  publisher of my book The Dawn Tree..  I wrote santa claus arrives in cleveland as a *dance* with his poem.  Both poems were published here, in deep cleveland....http://deepcleveland.com/poemoftheweek.html .  I don't often write Cleveland based poetry, but have several archived here... and several in 2007..
Here's Mark's poem:

steal this poem & eat it

they say the soup kitchens
& food pantries in cleveland,
are getting mighty crowded
their ranks swollen up like
a bad knee or bone bruise,
hundreds of victims of the
bush recession out on the
street and looking for salvation.
& donations are running low,
canned goods, lunch meat
& bags of potatoes going out
the door so fast they can't
keep the shelves stocked.
well it's true i cannot send
them money i ain't doing
so well myself these days,
but i can offer up some words
on a plate of love, & walk
away from it, maybe just
leave a note saying, feel
free to steal this poem, &
eat it. it's not much but
right now it's all i got.

~Mark Kuhar

santa claus arrives in cleveland

You’re right as rain Mark,
(and so was Abbe Hoffman)
now that
more and more
coffers are empty and
coffins are full of
dead soldiers and starving babies
Cleveland no longer
warrants a laugh at anyone’s
expense;

it’s going to take a whole lot
of right to undo all that is wrong:
all those “us’s”
who didn’t really
“give a shit”
or at least much more
than a perfunctory,
“who gives a shit”
check sent, of course, with
calculations of a “good”
tax-write-off, pre-2008,
now that everyone’s
a bit compromised
though big wheels keep
on rolling…

Santa Claus is coming to town
having
pulled in his belt a couple of notches,
he’s not as fat as he used to be.

Abbie Hoffman wrote “Steal

Abbie Hoffman wrote "Steal This Book". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steal_This_Book which was a 1970 cultural anti-establishment-how-to book on just about anything and everything.... A really interesting article.... read it in its entirety... ~A "Speech is blasphemy. Silence a lie. Above speech and silence is a way out." I-tuan.

Another xmas poem:nothing

Another xmas poem: nothing comes to cleveland there was a rainy day once i got soaking wet filling my tank up at $4.47 a gallon, those were the days i drove 60 miles round trip for a job at $10 bucks an hour sure as hell rain must turn to snow in Cleveland quicker than you can blink an eye, and now that gas is under a buck-fifty i have no car and hardly working these days, (even the old folks' monies are drying up and families are actually caregiving?) so i'm thinking about taking up a collection, ....time to thank me for the gas prices being so low, my socialist friends want me to organize is capitalism still right as rain? Millionaires to be made; profiting up the ante with little or no "overhead" to speak of, no huffing and puffing are needed when the sky is falling on the little ticky tacky boxes, all looking just the same And somewhere down another rabbit hole, the Queen of Hearts shouts: "Off with their heads." "Speech is blasphemy. Silence a lie. Above speech and silence is a way out." I-tuan.

a beautiful

and agonizingly accurate poem. these horrendous economic conditions are not restricted to Cleveland. and you do a wonderful job of resurrecting Abbie Hoffman, that exciting and unfortunate revolutionary who could no longer believe that people like Dick Cheney could be overcome. GB

*Revolutionary* is such a

*Revolutionary* is such a contradictory term... The mind on *automatic* immediately has negative connotations... However, Christ, Buddha, and every human on earth who has ever lived and died was/is a *revolutionary* or a follower of one. Much love. Anna Carl Sagan.... You write with power, grace

and above all humanity. Maybe it's about time the affluent middle and upper felt the bite. We've been feeling it for years. cheers, Jess "A poet's work; to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world and stop it going to sleep." Salman Rushdie

A compassionate heart can arise anywhere

but less likely in those who can't pass through the needle. cheers, Jess "A poet's work: to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world and stop it going to sleep." Salman Rushdie
