Have ticket, must fly

I didn't really choose to leave.
There was a plane to catch;
a family celebration to attend.
It was arranged.

In spite of such excuses,
I could have stayed,
and that wrong turning,
that choice I never made,
will haunt me, on and off,
till my last day...

Thanks Barbara,

Yes, it was by far the worst experience in my life so far. When a relative or friend commits suicide we are left thinking that we could have done more to cheer them up, even though we're not psychologists. I'm afraid the next ten or so poems I intend to post on this blog are all connected to this sad event or to memories of my brother - so perhaps they are not suitable for readers who are already feeling depressed due to their own tragedies. Everyone seems to go through a rough time at some point in their lives... Best wishes, Robert.

Sorry for your friend,

Sorry for your friend, too... These kinds of moments are particularly difficult... we blame us... so many interrogations... with no real answers... it needs time... Don't care about readers, Robert, just write... writing is often the right treatment... Best wishes... jean-louis

Thanks

Thanks for your comments. As you say there are no real answers after this kind of event because 'what might have happened if...' is always a mystery. Best Wishes and Merry Christmas, Robert.
