Spirit Woman #4

Spirit-Woman #4

Beside the cold mountain stream
The fox sits and watches,
A grin upon his masked face
As bright sunlit swatches
Play upon his red fur.

In the stream, her hair sparkles
From water droplets on her braids.
Her skin is deeply bronzed
In the shallows where she wades,
Rejoicing in the stream.

Her fringed buckskin dress
Placed now upon a branch,
Beaded moccasins on the ground
Overlooking the streams advance,
Where she lingers at ease.

Slowly emerging from the stream,
Nipples dimpled now with cold,
With the supple movements of a cat,
Looking neither young nor old,
She dresses once again.

Intently, she listens to the wind,
Her eyes turn anxious, but not afraid.
Hurrying toward the forest depths,
She slowly starts to fade,
Just a shadow once again...

The fox barks once, then trots away
As if that's all he deigned to speak,
Then chases after something
That he always seems to seek,
And the Spirit-Woman is gone.

Hi Rett,

This poem makes me think I could easily fall in love with your spirit woman if I met her in the forest one day, especially if I was lucky enough to see her swimming naked and then wading out of the river with her bronzed skin and her cat-like movements. I wish we had spirits like this where I live! Best wishes, Robert.

*LOL*

I could too, but she is very untouchable unless she wants to be. Spirits are funny that way. *G* Respectfully, Rett: "Each man is good in the sight of the Great Spirit.." (Sitting Bull)

Aussie spirits are weird,

Aussie spirits are weird, alien and inimicable to humanity. Harsh land harsh spirits perhaps, very very ancient too, Aussie has been isolated from all the continents since it split from the one big continent, Pangaea, yonks ago. Love this but wonder about the significance of fox in native American spirituality. Kind of expected coyote, isn't fox an import? cheers, Jess "They that give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety" Benjamin Franklin, wonder what he would think of the Patriot Act.

Australia is a unique

and fascinating country with species not found anywhere else on the earth. Would love to see it someday, but would prefer not to meet any Funnelweb Spiders thank you. As for the Fox, it was/is native to America although we have imported European Fox also. http://www.thefoxwebsite.org/populations/northamerica.html In Native American culture, the fox is sly a trickster (somewhat like Loki in Mythology) and some tribes even called themselves the Fox tribe. http://www.ewebtribe.com/NACulture/stories.htm In this series, he kind of works to be a harbinger of things to come and a kindred spirit to the Spirit Woman. As I started more with the southern tribes I used the fox. The coyote would probably have been a better choice for Little Big horn or the next, but the Fox ranged and ranges over a lot of North America also. ah, thank you

ah, thank you. I didn't know cheers, Jess oh and if you do visit, don't worry about funnelwebs, unless you meet one, worry about dropbears, rampaging razorbacks, crocodiles and bullshitting Aussies, in equal amounts of belief and disbelief. Oh and snakes. But hey, in the cities you are as likely to meet any aforementioned species as any American city, except bullshitting Aussies.
