we all die like thieves

watch someone
in the act of not telling
weighing a secret much
like a woman with eggs
in a market deciding what money is left.

there is a part of any person
practicing how to leave itself
amputating.
leaving behind obvious trails
curling towards the bone

with that,
the rest makes sense
and why those words still bleed dark.

this

is, no false flattery intended, one of the best poems i have encountered on this site--subtle, using metaphor like a creeping wind, ringing quite true as to that old edict: "private pain will bury your soul". magnificent. six stars. gb
