Just Like a Soccer Ball

Just like a soccer ball

I am different from a soccer ball,

But that’s how you are treating me.

You say you like soccer

And you say you like me.

You treat me as if I am a ball

That you can pick up

Whenever you find time

To kick around,

Trying to score points.

But a soccer ball, you see

Can’t feel the pain

In your kicks like me.

I feel like I just sit in a corner

Waiting for you to come around.

One day, though, I will be

Just like your soccer ball.

And that day will be

When you can’t find your soccer ball

And you can’t find me.

oh no

This poem is well done tink :) Kind of sad but I know that was then. At the least you try and get it by running after it but yea being kicked around will cause anybody to be gone except for those in the habit of liking it which is another whole sad thing. 1984 huh? lol you might just start a poetic nostalgic movement :) oh no lol If you read that I feel lucky. Thanks Mark!

Mark, This is the oldest poem that I can remember writing, wow 24 years ago. I know I was writing before then - since 7th grade (can't remember what year that was) but then i wrote short stories and plays and such. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment. Wouldn't that be funny poetic nostalgic movement...lol! Live, Laugh and Love (and don't forget to write) Tink

Thanks Emarie

It was a him! A high school boyfriend that, at the time, I had a HUGE crush on. Unfortunately he didn't feel the same as me. par for the course. You were 11 in 1993? Wow, now I feel old! I was seven years out of high school and well into the rat race! Post your poem! I'd love to read it! I try to post old and new, it helps to see how much my writing has grown over the years. And its all part of my portfolio, so I want it all out there. Thanks glad you enjoyed this one. The end

is particularly strong here. I admire your lightness of tone with a theme like that, suggests to me that you´re over it. Can you show me how, apart from all this "time is a healer"-stuff? Regards, ID

thank you id and to answer your question

its all attitude. and a realization that i deserve better than crap. its that simple, really. keep in mind it took me from the age of say 15 until the age of 31 to figure it out. with lots of broken hearts inbetween. and now, eight years after all of that, i have a Great man who i'm totally lucky to have - in every aspect! my mother always told me that you teach people how to treat you. and she was right. if you allow people to treat you like crap, they will. if you command (not demand) respect, you will get that. i'm a simple person. life is too short to spend it miserable and you only get one crack at it. i treat people the way i want to be treated and try to stay positive as much as possible. and all at the same time i don't allow anyone to walk all over me. hope this helps. if i can help in any other way, please let me know. i'll help in any way i can. am impressed

at this for your first write. In 1984 I think I was still playing with soccer balls, not using them as a metaphor, lol! Mark W. "Not since the Houston Asylum Fire of '54 have I seen so many flaming crazies." ~Dan Rather, SNL Fringe Candidates Debate
