Birthday Miracle

Another year almost gone by.
Becoming another year older.
I'm hoping this year will change.
As I slide downwards
to another milestone decade
maybe my birthday cake wish will finally transpire.

To graduate
and have the stress
uncertainty
and bare to the bone work
finally pay off
in a good career

And that this time
my visions of stability
will be a reality
instead of a repeat
from the years past
in an industry I thought was forever

And instead of wasting my time
creating technology
for stupid gadgets that no one needs
I could use my education wisely
and help people instead
and not come home every day
angry with myself for supporting an industry
which benefits no one.

So birthday Gods, if you're listening
as my wish gets carried up though the smoke
of multiple smoldering candles
I pray that this year you'll take heed
I am weary
I am despondent
and I'm counting on you
for a birthday miracle.

Expectation is what drives

This is reality. Everybody hopes for a better and more meaningful life. You have very succinctly pointed out in your 4th stanza, wanting things is not good enough, one should want the right things - things that will infuse meaning into ones life. Leonard

Having just read Eddie´s "Was it for null"

I find much of what I said in my comment there in this piece. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and hope that you will be granted your wish. It is a wise wish. Being able to help people is very rewarding, but do not count on it being less exhaustive... Best wishes, ID

Hi,

Good luck with your birthday wishes. In practice it is often quite hard to use ones education wisely (I certainly didn't) because one has to accept whatever job is available after graduating. The ideal thing is to be able to wait until something really suitable turns up, beneficial to others and appropriate for yourself. Hope you find it...supposing this poem is about you ... Best wishes, Robert.

Jess

I wish you well, hopefully you are close to graduation. In what area will you earn your degree? Social Worker came to mind as I read your piece. Happy Birthday, and many more happy ones

of wishes and stars...

a belated happy birthday! I am convinced that you just have to find the right star to whisper your wish to and it will be granted. but it can take a while for you to get there. you may approach the wrong star first and start your search again. what I'm basically trying to say is that all things take time and effort. but they will turn out right in the end. I sincerely wish that all of your dreams come true.
