The real Santa Claus

The Real Santa Claus

With children at their knees
They tell them of the light
That guided three wise men
To a manger late that night
Where lay Christ the Saviour
Wrapped up warm and tight.

Stories to feed chilhood dreams
As to bed they put them all
And tuck them in with a kiss
While wondrous stories they recall
Under the tree presents are placed
By the real Santa Claus.

They don't know Mom and Dad
Are the real Santa Claus
For children need the mystery
And stories to give them pause
It's done because of love
And not for any other cause.

Mom and Dad are late to bed
And oh so early they rise
The reward that they find
Is in the children's eyes
As each sees their presents
Reacting with excited cries.

Santa Claus is for children
Moms and Dads all agree
But they're told of the Saviour
So when they're older they will see
That it was love they were given
And Santa Claus was you and me.

Hi Rett,

I think this poem vividly defines the importance of parental love at Christmas time, especially when our children are young. My own kids still remember the magic of those days even though they are all in their twenties now, so we must have done something right. Congratulations on the three rhymes in each stanza. Best wishes, Robert.

Thanks Robert

Love and nurturing are very important to children. My kids remember it vividly. My daughter told me a couple of nights ago how much she admired the way we handled Christmas and made it such a beautiful thing for them. That means a lot to a parent. On a different note, I see you got your picture changed. I like it! Respectfully, Rett: "For all you Scrooges who don't like Santa Claus or the true meaning of Christmas, BAH HUMBUG! For the rest of you, MERRY CHRISTMAS!" Rett

You've hit the nail right on the head. I think the thing I miss most about childhood Christmases was the togetherness. Sometimes we'll have dinner at a relative's house, but it's just not the same. I think that's why the holidays depress me so much - I can't seem to get back to the joy, you know? ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "Does Rudolph fail the safety inspection if his nose is burnt out? And where does he go? I don't think he'd fit in the bay at the Jiffy Lube." Happy holidays, y'all!

I know what you mean Jess

It just isn't the same, but you will make your own Christmas memories in time. Merry Christmas my friend to you and your sweetie. Respectfully, Rett: "For all you Scrooges who don't like Santa Claus or the true meaning of Christmas, BAH HUMBUG! For the rest of you, MERRY CHRISTMAS!" Rett

Thanks Janice

My kids were smart in that respect. They would not admit around us that Santa wasn't real until they were 10 -11 years old. *LOL* Aww, I bet she was so cute with Santa. Always remember that family is very important. No matter how old you get, mama, daddy, brothers and sisters are still family. Tell them you love them every day or every time you talk to them through the years. Will check out your poem as soon as possible. Respectfully, Rett: "I once had a handle on life, but it broke." Rett

Awesome. I like this one and the imagination. Christmas is for kids who believe without seeing to prepare the idea of what is to come. It's nice to see my grandchildren and talk about Christmas and what heaven will be like. He wants to meet Paul Bunyan and his blue Ox. I love it. shhhhh don't tell. Patty

as much as it depicts the

as much as it depicts the real essence of parents in a child's consciousness, i still think that not to be overlooked is another meaning, hidden, about what Christianity has become to the contemporary generation: a mere bedtime stories' session. a good work though

In many ways you are right

Thanks to continuing attacks on religion (Christianity in particular since others are supposed to be tolerated) it has been relegated to basically bedtime stories. Isn't it odd that the very people that tout tolerance, acceptance and diversity have almost no tolerance or acceptance for Christian beliefs and values? One of the most hypocritical things I can think of. Thank you for reading and your insightful observation. I truly appreciate it. It is always surprising at making spotlight and always, it seems, with a poem I am not sure how will come across. Respectfully, Rett: "The people of America must really like idiots, look at EVERYONE in Washington." Rett

Hello Rett

This is so appropriate now, since the attacks on Christmas have begun in earnest once again. I like the way you were able to put the Christ back in Christmas with a poem about Santa. I have a fantasy novel for youth in the works in which God and Santa are friends and share the work of a merry Christmas for kids. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Deelilah

Merry Christmas to you and yours also Deelilah

Year before Last the Lowe's down here tried to sell Holiday Trees. Along with many others I asked and wrote Lowe's asking them. "Do you sell them for July 4th? For New Years or Veterans Day?" They said No. They boycotted the Lowe's here till they covered up the Holiday and put Christmas Trees up. If you can recognize the other religious holidays then you can recognize Christmas as Christmas. This Political Correctness stuff is BS. Your book sounds intriguing as all get out. Dang good idea. I hope you have wonderful luck with it! Thanks for reading and commenting. I truly appreciate it! Respectfully, Rett: "The people of America must really like idiots, look at EVERYONE in Washington."
