Futile

"Johnny was a chemist's son, but Johnny is no more
what Johnny thought was H2O was really H2SO4."
- unknown

Flipping through my review book
my mind begins to wander.
What do you get when you mix this and this?
my little brain tries to ponder.

"Precipitation! " The heading reads, "drops out a solid mass."
Hmm, I say to myself "reminds me off my ass."
I envision the coin floaty thingy at the Taco Bell
where pennies drift to the bottom, and other coins as well.
I chuckle at my comparison, and flip to the next page.
I'm sure if the author could read my thoughts
he'd hop up and down with rage!

I read another boring line.
and then I read another.
So if hydrogen bonds with oxygen, does it now have a brother?
I read: "a solid to gas change is called sublimation."
"Yep, a near-impossible feat," I say
"Just like my concentration!"

I set down my book, rub my eyes
stare at the cover for a while.
as I slowly realize any more studying tonight
will render my efforts futile

*LOL* reminds me of Leno last night

Battle of the Jaywalking Allstars! The question was... Water can exist in all three states. What are they? The first answer was.....drum roll.....Pennsylvania, Alaska and Maine! Good write about studying Jess! Enjoyed it a lot. Respectfully, Rett: "For all you Scrooges who don't like Santa Clause or the true meaning of Christmas, BAH HUMBUG!For the rest, Merry Christmas!" Been there done that too

This brings back some fond memories, actually. I was a professional student for about 18 years. I really liked this poem. It's very well constructed, but comes off so naturally. As to the lapse in concentration, may I suggest caffeine. Yours, Deelilah
