Future Memories
There are memories I have of people
that float up from the past,
the same way that water turns into ice.
The memory of their essence is there,
running and floating through the fingers of my mind;
and suddenly,the way a scent can trigger a recollection,
it hardens into a concrete thought;
reminding me of a memory that once was.
The memory of friends is like that, to me.
A scent, a color, a phrase, or even a situation
can turn the fluid of my past,
into the ice that is the hardened reality of the present,
and then I remember.
Now, you're going away my friend, to brave a new world
and I can tell in advance that I will miss you,
and that you will surface in my mind and haunt me.
And that will happen because of how special you are.
I welcome those future memories;
but for now, I must say farewell,
and hope that you will remember me, as well.
At least we'll always have the sky to share,
and every time I see the moon,
I will see your smile.
So, farewell my friend.....for now.
that float up from the past,
the same way that water turns into ice.
The memory of their essence is there,
running and floating through the fingers of my mind;
and suddenly,the way a scent can trigger a recollection,
it hardens into a concrete thought;
reminding me of a memory that once was.
I welcome those future memories;
but for now, I must say farewell,
and hope that you will remember me, as well.
At least we'll always have the sky to share,
and every time I see the moon,
I will see your smile.
So, farewell my friend.....for now.
