Jewellery

They never bought each other diamonds,
rubies, sapphires, pearls or gold.

The only precious things they keep
are memories of days they spent
on golden shores with turquoise seas
or viewing snow-enamelled peaks;
tangled up in bed;
or simply playing with their children
or dining out with friends.

I like this, its short and

I like this, its short and sweet but theres a lot of truth to these words. What else do we have but our memories? Our experiences? Truth is found in the seemingly small and unimportant its not found in overblown, vulgar gestures. I think many people will be able to relate to the sentiment of this poem because most people probably do keep their most precious memories in simple things like "dining out with friends" or "simply playing with their children"

Memories

Hi Vulpine, I'm so glad you enjoyed this poem. Many of my most memorable moments seem to have happened while I was by the sea, up in the mountains, in love, with my children or with friends, and I can see from your comment that your experience of life coincides with mine in some of these areas. Thanks for the comment, Robert.

Hi Robert...

vulpine is right... this is an easy to relate to piece of work that I thought was well put together as well... and true too... the grander moments are much more precious than rocks... Richard

Rocks

Hi Richard, I have never been able to understand why some people (particularly some women) go so wild about jewellery. Good moments and experiences are far more important to me, and you seem to agree with that. Thanks for your comment. Best wishes, Robert.

Gems

Hi Lonnie, Thanks for your comment. As you suggest with the word 'lifetime', our good memories accumulate over the years to form something truly precious. Perhaps they also help to protect us from the bad ones! Best wishes, Robert.

I can relate to this one. It is short, but so filled with truth! Jewels are not an important part of my life.It is the shared memories with friends and family that are the real jewels~ _____________________________ To write a touching poem, you must gently stir the soul, if it brings forth tears or smiles, then the story was beautifully told. ________Janice Pearce_________

Jewels

Hi Janice, Thanks for your comment. It is so nice to meet a number of people on this blog who seem to feel the same way as I do about life. Best wishes, Robert.
