NOSTALGIA

Wish I had a dollar
Wish I had a dime
I could buy so many things
In a different day and time

Penny candy by the sack
Saturday movies, just ten cents
Comic books, and baseball cards
Haven't had such fun since

A quiet time, a gentle time
Seems so long ago
On my roller skates
Or on my my bike I'd go

To the corner store
And with a penny and two dimes
Buy a pack of Lucky Strikes
For my uncle, many times

L/S/M/F/T
I wonder who remembers that

Hi Linda...

I remember those times well... for a quarter we could go to the saturday matinée and get a coke and a popcorn... those days are far gone now... I would ride my bike for miles and miles... I wouldn't dream of letting my children go as far away from home as I went without my parents knowing or even really worrying about me... the acronym ... I'm sure once you tell me I'll remember... but right now... enjoyed the ride back in time Richard

You are right, I would never have let my kids roam as far as I did then. The acronym is "Luck Strike means fine tobacco"

Had the I'd rather fight the switch. Camel was "I'd walk a mile for a camel" and Old Gold had the dancing cigarette pack. LSMFT Lucky Strike means fine tobacco and the dozen different sayings kids put to it. Loose strap means floppy...well you know.. 28 cents a pack when I stated buying them. Remember Prince Albert in the can? Don't know if either of you remember Picayune Extra Mild, one puff and they would nearly kill you. *L* Rum Crooks cigars.. Brought back lots of memories here. 25 cent matinees coke and bag of corn oh yeah. Double feature even with a cartoon. Great one Linda. 6.5 ounce cokes for 5 cents, 6 cent coke machines. 5 cent candy bars or a "Hollywood" brand candy bar for 3 cents. Bubble gum 2 for a penny. Thanks for the memories Linda. You also Richard. Respectfully, Rett: "If law abiding citizens are denied guns, the police don't need theirs. After all, the criminals aren't feared, just the law abiding citizens." Rett

Now that you have said it, I remember camels was walk a mile. LIke John Cameron Swayze, and his commercial for Timex watch, Takes a licking and keeps on ticking" My favorite candy bar was the Clark bar. I think probably a lot like Butterfingers, today. I was my poor brother that got stuck with taking me to the movies on Saturday. He made sure I knew that I was an embarrassement to him.

Linda,

A great poem that brought all my childhood memories that I enjoyed. I remember all these things, exactly as if we had grown up in the same neighborhood. Linda I wonder if you did what we did with when we saw an empty pack of Lucky Strikes on the ground. Who ever step on the pack could get free hits on anyone who was close enough. We would step on it and yell out, "LUCKY STRIKE!!" Do you remember that? thanks I enjoyed the poem a great deal, Eddie

O my… are there ANY

O my... are there ANY neighborhood mom & pop stores anywhere? I remember the wax bottles with the sweet juice, the candy cigarettes... LSMFT.... 2 or 3 packs a day of Lucky Strikes eventually killed my father with emphysema... Thank you Linda for this walk down to my favourite store....nostalgia. ~A "Speech is blasphemy. Nice poetry, flowed well, with great nostalgia. I remember the dime store. with its wooden floors that creaked, Guns with refill caps for 10 cents each. The nonpareils and chocolate stars, delightful candies in big jars. Mom took us downtown on the bus can I pull the cord this time? Patty throws Linda some of the candy that is attached to the paper. nice Linda, Patty

Hey, Patty

The wooden floors, yes. and they seemed to bend and creaked when you walked on them. I loved the caps for my gun. I liked the huge jar of jelly beans in the window at the drug store, and whoevere guessed the correct amount of candy in that jar or got close to it won a prize. I always tried but never won. LIke I say, simple fun, in a simpler day. Thanks Patty for your comments

NOSTALGIA

Linda, Thanks for bringing me back for a moment in time. I loved the way you started this one. Such a simplier life, that no one will ever experience again. I am so glad that I lived these years~ _____________________________ To write a touching poem, you must gently stir the soul, if it brings forth tears or smiles, then the story was beautifully told. ________Janice Pearce_________

And why did they go so fast. We had such fun from the simple things. This was bout the time that all us girls, would trade clothes for a week, and we had an instant new wardrobe. Thank you, Janice for taking the time to comment.

Am not old enough for the Lucky Strike rein, but 'celebrate' nostalgia in my own way. $1.20 for a gallon of gas. 2 huge pizza slices and a soda for less than $5. All these value meals were less than $3... instead of the $6 that they are now! $2.50 for a movie ticket instead of $10 now. I miss being younger! Like Zarul, I want to go back to a time when my only worry was which parent was going to discover the empty container of milk in the fridge! :~D ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "So you stand on the corner in your new English clothes. I must be a wee bit older

I remember all the way to 18 cents a gallon for regular gas. 28 cents a gallon when I started working in the stations (full service, even vacuum). 5 cent cokes in 6.5 ounce bottles. Of course I also remember my boss at the grocery store cutting my hours when the first minimum wage law came into effect and he had to pay me 35 cents an hour! I can remember me and my girlfriend, skipping 5th period english, and running down to a little store, and buying a bottle of pop for 10 cents, and hostess cupcakes for a dime, we loved it and would plan all day for this adventure. We thought we were so bad

Oh, one very important thing I remember

Girls! 5 or six stiffly starched petticoats to make the skirts stand out like they were twirling them all the time. Pink, blue, red, yellow.. Funny thing is, unlike most boys I never went through the disliking girls stage. I always liked them. *LOL* Got caught at 6 kissing the two neighbor girls. Bonnie was a blonde, Anita was a redhead. Woman, you brought back way too many memories. I haven't thought about those two for years. They were adopted by an older couple down the road from us and the old man ( Mr. Badon) had a heart attack and died. They took Bonnie and Anita back away from Mrs. Badon when he died. She dies soon after. I never saw Bonnie and Anita again. They and I were about 9 at that time. That was not too long after the three of us got caught playing Doctor so I remember it well. It was sad. I remember them being taken away crying and trying to hold on to Mrs. Badon. Respectfully, Rett: "If law abiding citizens are denied guns, the police don't need theirs. I do remember the petticoats, we used to wash them and then dip them in sugar water, as it made them stand out more. I couldn't imagine having the wear those things now. and yes there were at least 5 of them, but mine were all white. as where my friends peticoats Sad memories about your little friends
