Massacre in Mumbai

Terror attacks
Across Mumbai
If you're in the wrong place
Then you'll die

It's said
They came
From the mujahideen
Some of the worst violence
That we've seen

Where was their base?
Who made the plan?
It's said they came
From Pakistan

Where ever in the world
That we may roam
It's clear their goal
Is to make us stay home

I know
Most Muslims
They are good
But they're not speaking out
The way they should

Where are the moderates?
Where is their voice?
They must speak out
They have no choice

To hold their silence
Would be an error
They too are victims
Of global terror

I personally know many

I personally know many Muslims, both American and from the Middle East, mostly from my Middle East Peace forum.... I read newspapers on line and hard print. In Ohio, we have a large contingency of an Arab population. Ohio's monthly Middle Eastern newspaper is called Al-Sahafa. I have been to a beautiful Mosque in my city, listened to Imans from Iran, interacted with Middle Eastern students at CWRU, heard young comics and rappers from the Middle East. A few Neo-Nazis in Germany or America does not another Hitler make. A few terrorists in America, in London, in Japan, in Mumbai, does fear make round the world. This is the only way terror *survives* to recreate terror. Not too many folks are Salman Rushdie....Christian, Arab, Jew or Martian... Or is one Salman Rushdie enough for millions of moderates? http://www.subir.com/rushdie.html Peace and Light... thank you for your poem Michael... ~A "Speech is blasphemy. Silence a lie. Above speech and silence is a way out." I-tuan.

Thank you for your comment!

I'm really happy that you like my poem. I'm a bit surprised that I didn't get more of a response from other people, but that makes me all the more appreciative of your comment. As far as the theme of my poem is concerned, I know that most people are scared to speak out, but as with everything else that's evil in the world, their silence will not protect them. There's always a high price to be paid for speaking out. However, the price of not speaking out is even higher. No, not too many people in the world are Solomon Rushdie, but I believe all good people can raise their voices, and say loud and clear, "Enough is enough!" Enough of this senseless violence and bloodshed that accomplishes nothing. Sincerely, Michael

My favourite poem on the

My favourite poem on the subject is an old one i'm sure you have heard, Michael... By Pastor Martin Neimoller: First They Came First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew. Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me. "Speech is blasphemy. Silence a lie. Above speech and silence is a way out." I-tuan.

I like that poem too!

I think too often people focus on things that divide us, when in reality the things we have in common are so much more important. If we don't stick up for each other eventually we will be left by ourselves. Michael
