Freedom Rang

Freedom Rang!
or at least, she tried.
how unfortunate that
she had not paid the bill
and thus
what should have been
a clarion call
was instead
a three-toned disconnect.

Freedom Rang!
she used the change
that Justice gave her
when she begged
for it,
but the money he threw at her
 was not enough
to cover
three brief minutes of our time.

Freedom Rang!
she called collect this time
and this time we picked up,
but when we realized
the cost
we simply couldn’t see
the point
of paying the excessive fee.

Freedom Rang!
at last she dialed through
and waited for our answer
but we must labor hard
to pay to play,
and so
we weren’t at home -
sure hope she left a message...

if you'd like to make a call,
please hang up
and dial again...

if you'd like to make a call,
please hang up
and dial again...

Excellent

What else can be said. Freedom rang and we weren't at home. Respectfully, Rett: "Did you ever wonder if the politicians what want to ban guns went hunting with Dick Cheney?" Rett: 2008

Excellent!

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Interestingly enough, I initially thought the 1st verse was the whole poem & it actually works very well as is :) It's extremely funny as a stand-alone, a little more profound in context. Nice one. Regards, Jo

It WAS only one verse for a long time, but with this one I was like that painter, the one that cannot ever leave a finished canvas alone! Kept fiddling with it, added too much, slashed it back down, and finally just had to stop! Glad you enjoyed it. Jim "An armed populace is the last defense against tyrannical government"
