Beatnik Reentry

four…
    …it’s a wild glide baby
    liquid steel speed
    a searing shriek through friction
    into crushing atmosphere
    from barrenness so black
    it stains the brain
    to blue so effortlessly wide
    that it becomes the sky...
three…
    …it’s a crazed slide baby
    scorched acceleration
    whispers upwards into scream
    turning curve of world
     into freefall whirl
     of yawning drop so deep
     it swallows up your soul…
two…
     …get ready for it baby
     snap restraining straps
     close the gold-lined helmet visor
     do a final systems check
     take one last final hit
     hold in that shaking breath
cuz here it comes now baby....
...ONE…
     shockwave speed that soars
     across a minuscule divide
     from killing, airless emptiness
     to living, breathing world…

Thanks

Richard, I'm glad you enjoyed it. One of the things I like about neopoet is that I get to know the reactions and interpretations of others. In this case, a spiritual aspect to my effort was not a thing that I could see, until you showed it to me with your comment. Reading it again, with fresh perspective, I have to say it does have a spiritual quality that I was not aware of when I wrote it. It's fascinating to see such a thing in my efforts, and being unaware of it while writing it! Thanks again with smiles, Jim

Excellent Write, Race!

If Alan Shepard had been a poet, he might well have penned these very words! Really nice poem! Bravo!

thanks very much. This kind of this comes to me very seldom, I sure do love it when it does, and I can get it together into words! Thanks again
