The Secret (Parte Tres y Quatro)

Poetry is like therapy

without the Psychiatry,

 one mind exploring the

workings of another,

 and that’s it!

---------------------------------------
Parte Dos

In every poem there is

a single word that triggers

your thoughts into the

understanding of the poets

mind,

you can not lean on your own

understanding, you must see

theirs,

and that's it!
--------------------------------------------
Parte dres

We can not be chained by

the thoughts in our minds only

seeing shadows,

like Plato's "men in cave", but as

poets being able to see the

realities of the other poets,

and that's it!
----------------------------------------------
Parte Quatro

to improve our poetry we must

see the light of understanding,

that exist outside our own cave

(mind), in the glorious understanding

of the written word!

and this is truly it!

psychology of poetry

Edw...Poetry is only that, once it's been read. Much poetry is never read. So, it must be more than that in the beginning. It might be a way for the writer to confess to themself, or it might be a way for a writer to put helpful thoughts into ink to see them, analyze them, and perhaps work on self improvement, or an idea that could do something substantial for others. Then again, what do I know? I have to write just to find out who I am!!!! wcw

thanks for your comment. for me poets are not confessing, but are putting their feelings on to paper. they talk about how the world affects them in their day to day life. And yes it is an outlet. Most poets live in a world outside the rest of the world, because they see all the colors of the rainbow, but in their own shades not in ours. So that's what they try to make us see! thanks Eddie

Barb,

I wrote this as a study on how to read poetry and find the meaning in a poets mind. The reference to Plato, is his write of us not being single minded. We must read poetry not in our shoes, but in the shoes of the poet to understand what they are trying to convey. I don't know if you have read Plato "Men Of the Cave" but here it is: "Some men are chained together in a cave by the neck and arms, they can not see right or left, as they can not turn their heads all they see is the shadows on the wall that is in front of them, these shadows are created by the fire that is behind them, and this is all they see. One day one of the men escapes, and after a long while he returns to save his follow prisoners. He tells them that there is a world of beautiful colors outside the cave. The men become angered at what he has said. They scream at him, there is nothing else beside the shadows we see on the wall, and refuse to leave the cave." "Philosophy of Plato" So Barbara as you see the point is, that when we read poetry we must look beyond our own cave to understand the poet. and that's all I'm trying to say here. thanks for your comment. we are more than a community, we shape the thinking of a world! Dead

that's it Dark, we read and we learn, but the trick is knowing how to read poetry and be in the others mind. I appreciate your comment. Eddie

Just crack open those minds like a nut, and take a peek in, friend! Thought 4 was with a 'q' though... mus' just be me. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "If the S.W.A.T team breaks down your door, do they have to replace it later?" - "If you don't pay your exorcist, do you get repossessed?"

hey Jess,

yes it is with a "q" but it is about attention to what is said, and how. very good on your part! Like a nut is the right phrase, are we all that write a little out there, at less it's what Hawthorne and Kafka thought, and less not forget it was where Freud got his idea for psychoanalysis, from the poets. So I guess we're a psychiatrist nightmare. LOL thanks for your comment. have a happy! Eddie

Eduardo

This is really thought provoking. It shows what transpires in the mind of a poet wanting to relate to people.for me,I consider poetry as giving birth, and whatever we have birthed should be able to stand up,speak for itself and stand the test of time.Thank you for this one.

true,

It should stand up, But the reader sometimes sees something that the poet did not intent. So does it still stand in the meaning of the poet or does it become something else. So we can say that what the poet writes can take on new meaning. because of another persons perception. This is why I say that we must read in the shoes of the poet, and that bring me back to the point of all this, Plato "Men in Cave" So as you see it is not easy to try and relate what the poet is thinking, because of the different shades of thinking. thank for your well thought out comment and seeing what this poem is intending, Eddie
