The Working Woman (I didn't forget Chrys)
The Working Woman
She works the offices all day long
And takes care of all things wrong
Sweeps the floors and cooks the meal
Kisses their boo boos and makes them heal
She works the fields like any man
And gives her children a helping hand
Teaches school and drives the bus
Does it all without a fuss
She works the roads and fights the fires
And no one thinks she ever tires
On her hip she carries a gun
Laid aside when her day is done
Works the factories and risks her life
Carries on through all the strife
She drives the cabs and flies the planes
Don’t know how she takes the pain
Works the stores and bosses the men
Makes the cars run again
Watches children and holds their hand
Why can’t we all just understand?
She’s the janitor, washwoman and cook
Giving more than she ever took
The single mom who’s breadwinner too
Deserves a cheer from me and you
She never turned and walked away
Like so many do today
Instead she works all day long
And doesn’t stop when things go wrong
Sons and daughters and everyone
To her whose work is never done
Raise your glasses in full cheer
To the mothers we hold so dear
She works the offices all day long
And takes care of all things wrong
Sweeps the floors and cooks the meal
Kisses their boo boos and makes them heal
She works the fields like any man
And gives her children a helping hand
Teaches school and drives the bus
Does it all without a fuss
She works the roads and fights the fires
And no one thinks she ever tires
On her hip she carries a gun
Laid aside when her day is done
Works the factories and risks her life
Carries on through all the strife
She drives the cabs and flies the planes
Don’t know how she takes the pain
Works the stores and bosses the men
Makes the cars run again
Watches children and holds their hand
Why can’t we all just understand?
She’s the janitor, washwoman and cook
Giving more than she ever took
The single mom who’s breadwinner too
Deserves a cheer from me and you
She never turned and walked away
Like so many do today
Instead she works all day long
And doesn’t stop when things go wrong
Sons and daughters and everyone
To her whose work is never done
Raise your glasses in full cheer
To the mothers we hold so dear
