Ladybug

I notice movement out of the corner of my eye.
what’s this exploring the arm of my chair?
A wee ladybug!
A smile lights my face
and I put my finger in her path.
She crawls on, and I bring her in for a closer look.
Such a speckled beauty she is.
Covered in spots.
Her little legs tickle as she explores the new turf.
Little antennae working feverishly
trying to identify what she is walking on.

As she comes to the end of my finger
her front legs shoot out
thinking that maybe a leaf or twig is nearby
or something more familiar.
When she grasps nothing but air
she scurries the other direction up my finger
hoping to find something there.
Flustered and disappointed
she takes flight
and lands on the wall

Her red little body
a stark contrast to the brilliant white behind her
as she surveys her domain
probably just as confused as before.
Before long, she will probably find the plant in the kitchen
and will feel more at home
and I sit, pleased and warmed
that is is my home that she graces.
and my face she puts a smile on…..
