FOOTPRINTS

I searched the world over
I traveled far and wide
To see if I had been

I walked the sandy beaches
And found I left no footprint
Climbed the highest mountain

To see if the wind would call my name
Walked through many cities and saw
No recognition from any passerby

Where had I been all my life
What had I done with my time
I tried to speak but had no voice

As I had seldom spoken out
Had eyes, but did not see
I was always so preoccupied

Then I realized where I had been
I was a quiet soul
And had always lived inside my mind

Did I leave any of me along the way
Somewhere there is a book
With many names inscribed

I know that I am there
To show that I have been
And there will be my footprints

For my Lord to see
And he will call my name
And  will acknowledge me

LOL

I use the the word god, and lots of euphemisns fot it, its only evangengelism that gets up my nose, not just evangengelisn that in this world of many beliefs some people assume their creed is the only acceptable one. Whatever the creed. I hope you understand why I get so angree as what I see as smug unquestioning belief. I have been harsh and lost my temper and even been cruel in the past, but I hope you can see my point of view. Your poem, even though I questioned the last three lines is a poem of love and I applaude it. I intend to be more tolerant in future, but will not abide evangelism, it is a perpetration on other peoples beliefs. respects, Jess

Hi Linda...

as you know, I'm not religious.. but I do appreciate a good write.. this is a very spiritual poem that is easy to relate to for me... and had always lived in my mind... and always lived inside my mind... I don't know why, but I read your poem three times and every time my mouth wanted to change that line.. love seeing you here... Richard

Linda

I was reminded of a line in a Thoreau poem "...to put to rout all that was not life and not when i had come to die discover that I had not lived." You creeped me out with the walking in the sand without leaving footprints. Kind of got this whole dead-but-not-really sense from all that. Nice job. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- -"When I was strong, strong in the sound thought I'd see when day was done. Now I'm weaker than the palest blue Oh so weak in this need for you" - Nick Drake
