Two Poems of November 29, 2008

Warrior Poet (3)

when purple points and shadows fall
beneath the surface of the world,
and the mind breaks in two...

as the sun hides the spots
of the fawn on the lonely road
i travel inside my solitude
coming to a screeching sickening halt,
i see blood and hide
on my bumper and wonder what
i did wrong this day

if only i had left a moment earlier
or later if only i had taken another
road, if only i were not going so fast
or so slow

i wouldn't have to carry this heavy load..

i wouldn't have to remember this day
and wear it like a badge of trembling skies
as the real world shakes me like a leaf
and somehow that picture of the girl
"Four dead in Ohio" would not haunt
me even now.

Amaryllis

the Amaryllis grows on my kitchen windowsill
and the kale is freezing on your grave
i see your Chinaman eyes
follow me into my everywhere

my tears form icicles on my cheeks,
i am growing cold inside.
