an african sonnet
whose house does this black dog guard,
in the thick hard rains of the savannah,
what tree is planted by that house-a paw-paw tree
is planted by the coarse hands of blackness
that fertilize the farm,we are born farmers
we are not low nor proud to say
that we have toiled in vain for all these years
and yes,the case of that black dog
listen dog, your canines must be put to use
it was here that you lay ,lieing, yawning
when intruders came and stole from this land
both diamond and daughters, and splendor and sons
all bondsmen to serve tea on a foreign table
dog, arise and you must guard this house with your teeth!
in the thick hard rains of the savannah,
what tree is planted by that house-a paw-paw tree
is planted by the coarse hands of blackness
that fertilize the farm,we are born farmers
we are not low nor proud to say
that we have toiled in vain for all these years
and yes,the case of that black dog
listen dog, your canines must be put to use
it was here that you lay ,lieing, yawning
when intruders came and stole from this land
both diamond and daughters, and splendor and sons
all bondsmen to serve tea on a foreign table
dog, arise and you must guard this house with your teeth!
