A Little Past Green

A Little Past Green

Rose-colored autumn, a time of the year

When fickle gods craft red hats for the queen;

Soon chill winds blow her cover.  Can you hear

Intense leaves falling a little past green?

We’ll soon be sipping chocolate and dreams.

Darkness arrives too soon; the days are short—

Sunset before sleep, a little past nine.

Liquid light sinks low, yet yearns the young heart

For backyard barbeque and outdoors fine.

Remember sipping ice-cold beer and dreams?

They flush with plum burgundy and red orange,

Old enough to wear purple but a little

Past green—float down, turn brown, sit down, and change

Channels on TV.  Turn on the kettle

It’s time to start sipping green tea and dreams.

Good one

I can feel the crisp cool breeze in your writing and the warm cozy feel has. I am ready to pull out the kettle and make some hot cider or herb tea. My critique is keep writing good poems like this one. Respectfully Yours, Barbara

Hi, Barbara

Thank you for the great affirmation. That's the feeling I tried for. It's like--we get older, leaves wither, oh well, let's have some tea. I'd like to see your picture. Yours, Donna

Gentle on the mind as someone once sang and this is what they meant I think, Keep on writing, some of us see the inside of a falling leaf, others feel the colour, and there are some that feel the pain as it hits the cold earth, I like yours a lot, Yours Ian.T

Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your comment. The feeling seems to have come across gentle. Barbara's comment had a similar note. I like that. It's hard to write about red hats, the color purple, and withered leaves without being a little bit angry. I have to work at that some. Yours, Donna
