Fortunately, I had the opportunity to study under all the "old time" teachers before they retired. The ones that came in to take their place just weren't the same. They were good, but it was strange having a teacher that was literally only about 5 years older than I at the time.... But - they did have the advantage of being able to communicate and relate to the 'younger' crowd more effectively than those who'd been teaching for 30 years. Imo (aren't i always giving my opinion;-)?) somehow the art of teaching is lost on all but on a few teachers and the art of learning to listen (to learn) is lost on all but a few students.... there are, thank Saturn, schools predicated on engendering a partnership between school, student parent and teachers. Not just for exams that are shoved down the throats in the *no child left behind policy in the states"...all bullshit...if it's all about money (again!). And so my rant ends peacefully...no books had to be burned, thankfully. ~A
