Afraid Of The Dark

So afraid of the dark
No one understood
Shadows became monsters
I dared not look about

Closed the closet door
Covered up my feet
Never slept with my back to the door

Afraid of the unknown
Afraid of the things I knew
No where to run
No safe place to go

Alert to every noise
Night lights were for babies
Stop your crying, or I will give
you something to cry about

So afraid of the dark
No one understood
Is that another shadow
Is that another monster

It is.  It is my father at the door
No where to run
No safe place for me

Wow

I have no words....... but will pray if you don't mind. Bold subject. Good thing I know your faith and your father in heaven is not a monster. Patty My Father is the great I Am

Unfortunately, even the best nightlight can't make you feel safe from that. An angering write. Linda,

It's scary to have such fear of the dark and no one to understand, not even the most powerful person we know, Dad! It's like calling for help in the darkness and all you hear is your own Voice, that's the most frightening to me. As if God wasn't out there. Linda this reads like a story than a poem, and I would love to read the whole story. so please don't tease me. A great write! I felt the fear! Thanks, Eddie

Eddie

The most powerful person was my dad and he was also the monster. The reason for the fear. Thank you for your comments, Eddie.

Linda,

I understood that, that's why I made the refers to God, which is the only person we can turn to in that kind of situation. when I wrote, I want to hear more, it's because these traumatic experiences are best brought out in the light of day. I know because of my own monsters that I had kept hidden for years, which I eventually confronted.

Monster in the dark...

Linda, you got me there, but 'the dreaded object never came', I have walked this road before. The poem seems to present monsters in shadows, in every noise and the imposing image of a father at the door, thus giving layers of meanings to the fear of the dark. Again, the art I see in your poetry thrills me to congratulate you for a very good write. Well done and best wishes.

in the dark

filling the press with sharp letters put your flattened soul indented in whimpered sleep racing heart I know so many women through my times who grew with monsters men also bright intelligent sensitive and caring people who gathered up the shattered youth of ideals and crafted their empathies like sheilds curing them with trust (not all made it) This is a striking poem and well written I will try to comment more on your writing as I find it very touching to me

Linda the light

We are here in our worldly words, we are here each day as you travel around, look for us and not them. They, who even blacken the deepest shadow, will one day have to say to someone, even to themselves what they did, and wonder of all they will have to pay for what they did. We use this a lot, where each day, as you look in the mirror, say that you love the person there. As we know of you young lady, to carry their guilt is not for you to do. Oh ! magic wand where are you when we need you, if I could send the great healer to you I would, you have to ask for him yourself. It is hard to see the Keyboard in these answers to your words, Yours Ian.T
