My dog has fleas

The cat sat on the mat

The mat sat on the floor

The budgie's on the mantlepiece

The dog is by the door

I'm sitting in the armchair

Feeling ill at ease

The dog has started scratching

I think that He's got fleas

I take him in the bathroom

I put him in the tub

Run some lukewarm water

And give him such a scrub

I've got some special shampoo

It's really got some clout

Get a real good lather

And the buggers all fall out

Rinse him off and dry him

And sit him by the heat

Go into the kitchen

And get him food to eat

Nearly time for sleep now

There's one thing that I dread

If the dog has still got fleas

Do I want him on the bed ?

firstly to address the poem

it has that wonderfully classic whimsical style that reminds me in part of Whitman, in part of Longfellow, and closer to home of Chuck (barbsdad2003) here on the site. Interestingly enough, he wrote a poem titled "Chummy fleas" a while back. Great use of meter, pacing, and rhythm here, and again, the whimsy of it is catchy. Now, a little closer to home (groan) I can't stand fleas. I'm starting to think that they are sent directly from hell, lol. My poor, poor cats have them (again) and the last time they were nearly impossible to destroy. Well, after three weeks of treatment I have to take the cats to the shelter if I want peace in my house. I am rather irritable about this. Mark W.

Fleas

Hope it made you smile, I actually wrote this about a Border Collie we saw last week when we were staying on a farm in Wales, We have a boxer, border collie and a cat, we treat them with "Stronghold" it kills ticks, fleas and worms. Once treated with this, when a flea bites your pet, the flea dies. Its not that cheap but its well worth the cost, and makes for a happier pet and a happier you too. Regards John

John

This was a joy to read. My daughter had a cat with fleas and i couldn't seem to get rid of them, so I used dog flea powder, and almost killed it. Had to take it to the vet, injections under the skin. Anyway anyone who owns a pet will find this amusing Nicely written~ "There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you." Will Rogers
