Secret Rooms

In my room below the house
no visitors were allowed
no reason to let one in
no need to share...
not then

When I'm there the clock is gone
I am the singer of my songs
my senses run on high
no-one to tell me lies

A place of magical settings
anything that I might need
nothing here can ever hurt me
I have the only key

Can you come in... maybe,
will you be good to me
my only thing to share
my place that isn't there

Richard this is beautiful

As I said, this is beautiful, since you have not posted for a while I was getting worried. This poem is stunning, I loved every line. Throws rainbows, Patty

Thank you Patty...

for reading and commenting and the concern for my well being... but mostly for throwing those rainbows... we don't see them very often anymore... and they are missed... Richard

Moon

I so enjoyed this Moon, especially the last line. It packed a punch! "There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you." Will Rogers

Am I imagining ...

it, or has your writing magically matured in recent times? As you might suspect, I so much like to see such improvement(s). Thanx, Chuck

Magic...

I wish it was magic, but any improvements in my writing are directly attributed to being here on this site... I have learned so much here about poetry by just reading others poems and comments...and then I had a mentor for some time(poewriter58) and she was great... your comment is appreciated much more than you know! thanks Chuck... Richard, I agree with Tom

I like both styles, but I love this type the most. You can have all the rainbows you want. Patty

I thank you for that comment, it was not that long ago the only one that thought of me as a poet was my sister and I have been writing for years... I am humbled by your statement .... Richard

Very moving verse

Hits home in a very emotional way. Excellent imagery and good use of meter and rhyme. Overall, smooth and well focused. The picture you have so eloquently created is one that usually remains hidden from view. Your verse is both very personal and universally applicable. I enjoyed it greatly. John

Hi John...

and welcome to the site... I thank you for that wonderful review of this piece... it was actually a childhood fantasy I had for years... that I could go into the closet in my room and disappear down a flight of stairs into my own little secret room... I have met some people that had the same kind of thoughts... thanks again Richard

This piece haas moved me - I love the metaphor

You know Richard - I love to read stuff like this. I feel less lonely. I know this place you are talking about because I am frequent visitor to it. I love it: When I’m there the clock is gone I am the singer of my songs my senses run on high no-one to tell me lies Thanks for sharing these innermost thoughts which makes a person less alone by just identifying with them. Your friend ... Leonard

I like this side of you. This is beautiful. I still have an imaginary house I go to, and everything there is just the way I want it to be.

Rich

Unfortunately, the only magic rooms we have in our apartment where I can be truly alone is the bathroom. And even it doesn't lock! (there's a lock on it, but the other side has a slot for a screwdriver... so it's really to give you a sense of false security) There's no more room in my brain for a mental secret room. I'm glad you have managed to make space for yours. Keep that locked up well, ya hear? ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "Everyone needs to believe in something. I used to dream about the house i grew up in. There was always a secret room only I could find. The last time I had a dream like that, the room was on fire. It was very sad. Anyhow, I like this, we all need a personal retreat within us that remains virgin to the rest of the world.

Richard, my apologies for missing this

Excellent. I think in each of us we have that secret place we go when everything gets too intense. A retreat where no one or nothing can hurt us. A secure hide away where all is right. Well written and expressed my friend! Respectfully, Rett: "If a fool and his money are soon parted, what does that say about the government bailout?" Rett

This is my favorite one

Hi Richard, I actually read this back then and meant to tell you how much I like it. There are too many good lines to pick, but I guess "I am the singer of my songs" is my favorite. The last two lines are sweet and powerful at the same time. I like the way only they rhyme. That gives it a punch. Dee

ryhme

Actually, there's quite a lot of rhyming going on. I find new stuff every time I read it. And it just gets better, your little room. D.
