Airplane
Airplane
Nighttime in Cleveland
and who knows;
ten - thousand,
twenty - five thousand
a hundred thousand feet up
is a flickering light.
At this distance down I don't know
if this is a commercial airline,
or something small and fragile.
Maybe it's military,
or the space station,
hurtling through orbit.
It turns out
the Hubble's broken.
There's no money to fix it.
Tell me where's the tragedy in this.
Oh, I love space,
and exploration.
And I love my fellow man;
but I've been waiting for this day
when the crash would begin
like an airplane's engines failing
falling,
from stratospheric heights,
from the top of the tower of Babel.
Can we learn a lesson?
Greed kills,
greed it;
our way of life,
the motor stops,
the lights go out,
electrical failure -
oxygen masks descend
in first class.
Where's the anger,
the action,
the rolling of heads?
Where's
the
indignation,
resignation,
the furor?
Dehr Fuehrer
his fervor
it's on the street
in the whitest mansions
in Washington and New York.
Stutter stall spin
tank
and a loud screeching noise.
The faithful and the masses
and the huddled few left.
Who shall be saved?
Glory to God
a hundred thousand feet up.
