Church Ladies

They come in drag,
forget to shave their beards
forget to come clean
hanging on to their every word
like dirty sheets on a
clothes line,
old men who have nothing new to
say but what has been dragging
them down all these years,
to the pit and pendulum
handing out words like hymns
to their own shriveled-up gods.

Angry you?

I thought you were as easygoing and even tempered as me. *LOL* See, I shrug off little BS like that. I guess it is because I am old and don't remember them long enough to get angry. NOT! I get pissed at that crap. Good write. Respectfully, Rett: "We can all be thankful that Picasso wasn't a plastic surgeon." Rett

Nice work

One of the benefits derived from going to church is the social aspect, in mariage, blessing of the baby and funeral rites. Outside giving solace to the supplicating soul, these old men are coasting along for the final rites. Do you blame them? This poem is nicely written and came out as powerful feelings to a nagging issue. Well done and best wishes. T. If I may ask, where are the ladies referred to in the title? Are they in the last line with the angry one?

Well, in a sense I am one

Well, in a sense I am one too, however I am willing to see myself as one when I espouse the truth that only I have the truth... And of course the caveat is "to thine own self be true". However, most never even question who that is exactly. Respectfully answering, ~A

Reminds me of when

women first started wearing hardware in their hair to church and my mother in disbelief over it LOL. Personally I don't go there I know better but being a part of a good community is certainly appealing. Like the reference to EA Poe ;) Mark Man thinks this.

Well.. it’s kinda like

Well.. it's kinda like this.... i think we all (both sexes) tend to forget we are growing.... and we keep repeating the same old chapter and verse. I get bored of myself after a while. ;-) ~A

Anna,

Are you speaking of those who put us to sleep on Sundays the, old priests. the same old sermons, the some old hell and brim stone. Child molesting, claim of chastity. then we have the lovely Nun, is that it. I'm a little lost here to much to see! Thanks Eddie

most interesting.....

Unfortunately, I took a literal "translation" of it. Drag in meeting?! Isn't homosexuality (or whatever those type are) a sin? Aren't you supposed to be offering thanks up to the Lord, not complaining about what he's given you? sounds like a major spot of blasphemy there, eh? I think I'd be plenty pissed if I witnessed this in meeting as well. Outstanding, Anna. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "Everyone needs believe in something. Anna...

I think this is about religions not moving on with the times... there by keeping us all in a rut... is that a correct read? Richard

Firstly, I wish to thank all

Firstly, I wish to thank all who have chosen to read and comment. My intention was to question each and every one of us..(myself included of course). When we never question our beLIEfs, we stop growing and imo, God is life and love. *Drag* was used on two levels, the pretense of men who don't accept their feminine sides,(the most blatant--the Taliban) and the dragging of life into cutting (pit and pendulum) God and Love in half. Serving that on a purloined collection plate. ~A

Church Ladies

Maybe if they got in with the big Mac and sort of had drive through churches, where you could get that healthy food, with the healthy blessing they might change the attendance figures some. Good write, Yours Ian.T
