"birds skitter" what a peaceful image! Great haiku! ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "Everyone needs to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer!" - "Due to budget cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off."

Hi Chuck...

I think of fishing... I used to fish quite a bit, for years during summer months you would find me on a bank.. but I didn't ever care about catching fish too much.. it was for the relaxation meditation that went along with it... much like watching the birds skitter across the patio... enjoyed Richard

irony?

How come birds make you think of fishing? thought provoking...enjoyable one...thank you Barbsdad.

The birds did ...

not prompt thought of fishing. The thought intruded independently. As if to deny/ignore the otherwise pleasant sight before me. It's an easy habit to experience one thing tangentially in the present while thinking of something/somewhere/sometime else. Such behavior robs me/us of the richness available in current experience. I suspect most animals (other than humans) aren't shackled by such. Or at least not as much. Thanx, Chuck

Webster's:

senryu --- a 3-line unrhymed Japanese poem structurally similar to haiku but treating human nature usu. in an ironic or satiric vein. There you go. Perhaps I should make it "senryu" instead of "haiku/senryu." Thanx, Chuck

This

word skitter has great a illustrative quality and an inflection that is an Icarus? anyway this word carries me, just simply takes me fast-

interestingly enough

I had thought just a few minutes ago... "which would I enjoy more; fishing, or a poem about fishing?" I must go fishing now to find out... Mark W.

I guess one ...

might say this piece demonstrates a sort of multitasking. I.e., noting birds skittering cross-patio while thinking fishing. Both at the same time. Now, if I were a bit more intelligent, perhaps I'd do three things at once. Next time, for a stretch, I'll try watching birds while thinking of fishing while rubbing my tummy. Just to see if I can. Thanx, guys. Chuck
