I Am Not

I am not a hot-house
orchid,
a pretty sapphire violet
on a windowsill
or a daisy to pull apart,
"Does she love me or does
she not?",
I am a rose with thorns
and I'll bleed you
deep in your sleep
should you forget
your lotus roots,
forget where heaven is...

I'll break down the door
to your soul and leave
my scent lingering,
my thorns,
a crown of Love.

Oh Yes! I really like this.

Oh Yes! I really like this. Using the flower metaphors here really work. The strength of character comes through loud and clear! Excellent. For me the best lines are:- a pretty sapphire violet on a windowsill or a daisy to pull apart, "Does she love me or does she not?", I am a rose with thorns Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

Anna, this is awesome!! You pulled me right in, and nailed it on the last lines. A joy to read~ "There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you." Will Rogers

Jeez Anna!

this is amazing! Go all the way, and be one of those Venus flytraps! Lol. You slam dunk always, Jess. I'll keep your remarks on a slow burner... should come up with a poem or two. Thanks for the inspiration, child-of-my-heart. Extreme plant life indeed! the cockroach scurries bumps into the light.. the Venus flytrap opens, words fall in.... ~A

awww and ewww

Thanks for the compliments. Hate cockroaches, though. Such creepy ugly bastards. In all seriousness, if they didn't need such utmost care, and if it wasn't going to be another "pet" to feed, I'd so love to get one of those! (a Venus Flytrap, not a cockroach) Of course, knowing my luck it would try to eat the cat, or Jon would have an easy out for killing my fish. he hates Saki... says he's an aggressive little fish... well DUH! You tap on his tank all the time, he's gonna fluff up at you! LOL! (Saki's one of those Japanese betta fish) Always glad to inspire - it's not often I get told that I've inspired something good... ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "Everyone needs believe in something. Hmmm . . .

I read this as a religious poem. It reminded me of St. Thérèse de Lisieux. For me the Catholic imagery is strong, despite the reference to the lotus . . . I esp. like the last stanza - the image of a delicate rose breaking down a door. Stirring.

Isn’t that strange about

Isn't that strange about us humans.... when we're vulnerable... we are actually the strongest.... I think you saw that in the poem. Cheers. ~A

Whee doggie!

Shine on, girl! I had a feeling this would make Spotlight. Y'know, re-reading this, I'm reminded of an Audioslave song - I Am The Highway I am not your rolling wheels, I am the highway. I am not your carpet ride, I am the sky. I am not your blowing wind, I am the lightning. I am not your autumn moon, I am the night.... ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- - "Everyone needs believe in something. Anna

This is a great write. Strong and powerful yet delicate at the same time. For some reason it reminds me of a poetry chat room long ago where a lady came in and said, "Hi, my name is such and such and I am a lesbian". ( as if that made a toot to me, each his/her own) but anyway, I played dumb and asked "What is a lesbian?" She said she liked women. I said, 'Oh!, I guess I am one also because so do I." For some reason she got mad and cursed me out. *shrug* I thought it was funny. *G* Anyway, I love this poem. A man may say he is the boss, but the woman controls things. Besides, let us get sick and we want to be mothered. *LOL* Respectfully, Rett: "We can all be thankful that Picasso wasn't a plastic surgeon." Rett

ghost warrior (Hagakure 1:1)

it is a good day to die with my fears before me, friends on the edge of my sword blade your witness, watching you die the many small deaths at my hand pressing open the flower of your heart its thorns tearing away the masks of my flesh your gift of transubstantiation that I may know I am the light never ceased nor ceasing that is beyond the beyond and penetrates your translucence, a dessication of we apart who I am is past knowing and I am cut down by love to rise again again new as eleutherios -Michael
