MONKEY BUSINESS

MONKEY BUSINESS A hunter stepped into a clearingFound monkeys playing oyoyoA family reunion to end a busy day Hum – hum – hum, ‘one tell one’The message of his presence went roundThey jumped on the trees and ran away The hunter, in exciting disappointmentStood there, crafted a dangerous monkey planMixed sugar with gin brewed locally, Ogogoro! And poured into a basin, these spirit elementsOf air, earth, fire and water, long distilledAnd tempted the monkeys to their follies Hum – hum – hum, they came back, curiousTo see a basin full of banana in sweet liquorWhich they devoured with inherited greed The hunter strolled in to greet their sprawlIn stupefied state, they made no attempt to runAs he packed and stuffed them up in cages When the spirit wore off and drunkenness goneIt dawned on them; freedom in the wild was lostThey have sold their ‘body and soul’ to the devil.

interesting

Poor drunk monkeys. At first I had gotten a chuckle over the vision of drunken monkeys arsin' about... I stopped laughing right quick when I got to the end, though. Sad to learn of their fate. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- "If you've ever emptied the back of your pickup truck by driving backward really fast and slamming on the brakes, you might be a redneck" - Jeff Foxworthy Bill Engvall: "that's how we moved"

Trojan horse, ...

the apple from the serpent to eve, different forms of inducement and all the snares we unwittingly fall into, are examples of the monkeys' fate. A drunken monkey is really very stupid. Thanks for the reading and for the comments. Best wishes. T.

Monkeyshine

sad and true poem also read someplace if you put something a monkey likes in a tin or a box cage just big enough for his paw he will grasp the object of his affection and not let go thus getting "caught" his little paw not letting go strange but true I like this poem very much

With a heart full of thanks...

for the beautiful short piece of your poem which further exposes the monkey's weakness, yes I have head of monkey holding tight to the object of his fancy. Thank you for stopping by to read and comment. Best wishes. T.
