burning towards it

hit or miss
I take up what I was trying to say
like the shirt on my floor
I keep on stepping on

or ignore it like the guys date upstairs.

i tell myself its seasonal
let me explain,  I try
to make the writing burn

the only time I agreed with a certain religious lecture

was when he said meeting God was like meeting
fire.  and we have to burn at the same rate
like a match.
a paper would light,
but fire does not burn fire.

the sun makes us blind
we just slowly move towards what
we try to meet.    while I thought he should be able to meet
anyone.

on secular grounds
the rest made sense.

I begin to understand this poem

I do like how the title merges with the context, along with the stanzas. Those attractive aspects of religion cause people to pick, and choose. Very clearly stated. In ink, Dabbler

in a few ways i've had to make peace with the religion i was raised in, but still having an independent mind has hurt many close relationships. i think of myself as open but alot of it is picking and choosing like you said. i'm not sure what I believe except for what I don't, there is a lot of borrowing. thank you for reading
