pic envy

saw a picture
of a lovely
unknown model
laughing
and i wondered
what was the cause

would do
anything
to have been there
to have seen her
to have heard her
to have been it

I love the ending

It brings the sentiment into sharp focus. I like freeform poems like this that take a snapshot of life and render it clearly and coherently. No suggestions at this time. --Jonathan Annoying the world, one person at a time (Group discounts available)

Thanks very much indeed! As one who shares your own preference for formal verse, I always feel unsteady venturing into the uncharted territories of free verse.

I agree

This type of poetry when written well - leaves an impact. This does just that - in a few lines you captured the theme exactly. Excellent writing my friend! Kaz It's impossible to smile on the outside without feeling better on the inside.

Sometimes poetry seems like

Sometimes poetry seems like an attempt to deal with the experience of having been surprised by one's own emotional response to something--and perhaps of having been surprised to have consciously noticed that response. Your comment suggests that divulging--through a poem--one's attempt to deal with an emotion may be a deeper kind of intimacy than simply expressing the emotion itself. This might help account for poetry's status as essentially romantic... In any case, thanks!
