MOONLIGHT PLAY

MOONLIGHT PLAY The lantern of the sky shows up thereIts brilliance shines down hereEverybody stood up and rejoiceFor the coming of the kings torch Tok – odo – dio… tok - odo – dioChildren troop to the play groundYoung men clap their handsThe girls sing and dance along Dance and choose somebodyPoint to the one after your heartSelect those with very long legsSelect those with big stomach Dance and choose somebodySelect those with big headsSelect those with fine facesPoint to the one after your heart When you have made your choicesThe one after your heart, rememberAs mosquitoes go into the house at nightSo too shall the children return to their homes

Thank you very much

I tried to capture those moments in the village when we used to look out for the moon to play and tell stories. Today, in the city, with electric light everywhere, one is barely aware of the moon's presence. we are huddled together in our homes watching television. Whither our 'moonlight play'? Thanks for the reading and for the comment. Best wishes. T.

I liked the words, "lantern of the sky", very poetic. Electric light spoils the view of the stars. I love going to my daughters house, out in the country, at night and looking at the stars. I found the sky especially beautiful at night when I was in the Gulf of Mexico. I was like I could almost reach out and touch the stars. But as Weirdelf, says, I digress. I enjoyed your write, T.

Linda, you are right...

Moonlight carries rich culural heritage as elders used to sit with children and tell stories of old times, of bravery, of love and adventures. Today, I try to tell my children some of these stories. They don't speak my language because we have not lived in the village and their mother is from the U.K. You see, I have work to do and to recapture African folklore in English for their benefit. Thanks for the reading and for the comments. Best wishes. T.
