Whispers

"I love you to the
moon and back"
I whispered in her ear
a little girl of seven,
lost her grandmother this year

hair meticulously combed,
those brown eyes
flowing tears
slowly she walks
up to grandma
gives her a kiss and hug
singing a song
of devotion, she's
braver than her years
the casket holds
all the memories,
the teddy bears,
the tears
a little girl of seven,
lost her grandmother this year
"I love you to the
moon and back,"
I whispered in her ear

This is a very well written poem. Audie was very brave to sing a song. Did she put her teddy in for her grandma. Sounds like you are already a good grandmother, girls love it when you whisper in their ear. Right now that's what she needs to hear. Patty

I was doing all right until she left my side to go up and sing, then everyone lost it. She is special, as all my grandchildren are to me. Thanks Patty! "There's no trick to being a humorist when you have the whole government working for you." Will Rogers

I bet you would guess

that this poem would make me feel a bit uneasy. You are treading a fine line on sentimentality here but you manage it with skill. the only jar is between these two lines- lost her grandmother this year hair meticulously combed, perhaps a comma, stop or even stanza break after year? (you can see I am stretching to give some crit 8) ) cheers, Jess

Congratulations on making the spotlight yet again

This is a beautiful and very touching piece and shows the tenderness and love you are capable of. It is indeed unfortunate for the little girl who lost her grandmother but she is lucky to have you around to shower and give her your love and understanding when she needs it most. Life tries to make a balance between the good and bad, the fortunate and unfortunate, sadness and happiness. Good deeds - no matter silently they are done - never go unrewarded. This is the unspoken law of life. Warm regards ... Leonard

No matter the turn of the

No matter the turn of the screw, the turning returns us to Love. Your poem reminds me: Elizabeth Barrett Browning's (1806-1861) poem: How Do I Love Thee? How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of everyday's Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with a passion put to use In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.

Congrats on the spotlight. You have started a new tradition in my family. I saw my grandkids on Friday night and told them I had a secret to tell them. I whispered in their ear, I love you to the moon and back, to which they replied, I love you to Pluto and back (they said, I think thats the farthest planet). You set a fine example for all of us to follow. Glad you went with Audie Friday. Love you to the moon and back Patty

Returning now, today, to

Returning now, today, to this poem is heart-wrenching. I didn't know Kaz as well as you all did, nevertheless, there's an emptiness that is palpable. Love. ~Anna "We have to try to get rid of the notion of time. And when you have an intense contact of love with nature or another human being, like a spark, then you understand that there is no time and that everything is eternal." Paulo Coelho
