Midnight Train

I hear the mournful sound of
The whistle of a train

As it pierces through the silence
Of the dark midnignt calm

It calls to me, and I long to answer
Odd, that something that frightened
Me as a child comforts me now
If I could, I would let my soul slip out

And travel to the poignant call
Of the lonesome midnight train
And journey far to anywhere
And in the morn, return to me

Hi Richard

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. I didn't remember the Hank Williams, but I do remember Johnny Cash singing a train song

I know

I am probably old enough to remember, my husband remembers, and the line "I'm so lonesome I could cry," I do remember that, but I guess Johnny made more of an lmpression on me with his train song.
