I survived Ike! NOW I'M BACK!

hEY all! i', bACK! eLECTRICITY RESTORED 4 HOURS AGO!  Will be here off and on the next few days as I am still doing cleanup and what repairs I can make. YAY! Air Conditioning! Ahhhhhhhhhh!
Rett

Hey everyone!
I don't know how long before I am back. It depends on the power situation. I evacuated to Austin and was okay. My house sustained quite a bit of damage, but I have good insurance. I lost no trees, but a lot of limbs. Some as big around as my  waist. I am typing this while on a generator so won't be here afterward. We have water and sewer but no power. Thank goodness a cool front came in. Nights in the 60's and days low to mid 80's. Lots of cleanup. I didn't have time to  let everyone know so I apologize for that. I will get back online as soon as I have power. Be well all and I miss you all!
Respectively,
Rett

Update: Been home 5 days. Still no power. Plenty of food and Ice and we have water and sewer. Will be running the generator for very short times since I am down to the last $10.00 in my pocket until wednesday. Everything is fine. My wife won't let me work on the yard or house today since I collapsed yesterday from exhaustion. We were very lucky and the eyewall missed my little town. Houston, Galveston and Surfside beach are in pretty sad shape. In spite of complaints you may hear on TV and radio, the Federal, State and local governments are working together well and there is no lack of water and Ice and MRE's, which, btw are not bad, some are actually good. We have gas, sodas and all. no worries friends. Ba back when I can.
Roses are red
storms are violent
But the blessing is
lots or silence.

Respects,
Rett
PS, thanks all for the well wishes!

Update: Day Six,
Still no power. Latest word is "After Thursday". Still on Generator. My bank is "actually helping it's customers". They are allowing us to skip 2 months worth of loan payments with no penalty. That freed me up $381.00 right away so am good for a few more days. Still have plenty of food and ice and water and sewer service going without a hitch. I have a pile of limbs and brush 6 feet high by 10 feet deep by 148 feet long. Still cutting and cleaning after a days rest and recovery. Just too used to working hard all my life and tend to forget I can't push anymore like that because of my heart. The good news is that for the first time in 25 years I have a flat tummy with no belly poking out like I am pregnant. Everything has it's little pluses I guess. I am down to 150 with all my clothes on and my 32 inch waist pants are now too big. Looks like I may finally get back into size 30 after over 25 years. Was up to a size 34 8 months ago and they were getting tight. I still have 3 or 4 big limbs to cut up and then lots of raking before I can even think about mowing the yard. It is a slow process but I am getting there. I appreciate everyone's comments and will answer each as soon as electricity is restored. I am making judicial use of the generator so not on very long at a time. Y'all don't forget about the old man now. Later.
Respectfully,
Rett

Great to hear you are alive and well..... We miss you.... Hope everything goes well with the cleanup..... Sorry about your limbs... I hated when the wind destroyed two of mine.. they came from My Moms lake lot. I miss them waving in the wind. I have been praying for weeks now for the hurricanes to lighten up! Patty

I was worried about ya.. I knew Texas got hit hard but wasn't sure where you were really... it is a huge state... I was actually born in El Paso... Glad to hear that the damage was minimal.. not everyone got through it so well. Good luck on your clean up..! Richard

Ahh yes, the fun of cleanup. Jon, Dad Kilgore, and I had the fun of taking two trees off the shed, and felling two others from the hurricane that blasted trhough the East coast a couple weeks back. Jon and I were doing the two on the shed by hand, and Dad came home saying "you know I got a chainsaw, right?" LMAO, NOW he tells us, as we're rubbing the blisters on our hands! After two hours of picking away with the hand saw, I remember Dad saying he wanted to mow - and there were leaves and twigs scattered all over, so I raked. Good thing it was only about half an acre or so that needed cleaned up... If I had to hand rake almost 4 acres, I'd STILL be there! LOL! Good to hear about the slimming down, and the bank being cooperative with finances. So many take electricity for granted! Hope things get fixed up soon, and that you're safe and well. Don't overdo! Vanessa is right! :~) ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- "Will there be another race to come along and take over for us? My thanks to each and every one of you

I am most grateful for your understanding, well wishes, prayers and concern. Times like this try a person and it is good to know you are not alone and that others worry. That is worth much much more than gold. From the depths of my soul I thank you all. Respectfully, Rett: "The only thing observable with the naked eye to exceed the speed of light is rumor" Unknown

Thanks Barbara

Just finished the last of the yard cleanup today and mowed. Yard is looking good as can be expected with gashes and gouges all over *sob* but it is beautiful compared to a few days ago and absolutely stunning compared to when I got home. *L* Thanks again my friend. Hope you are well. I get to sleep late tomorrow! Hurray! Respectfully, Rett: "The only thing observable with the naked eye to exceed the speed of light is rumor" Unknown
