ATLANTIS

Way across the Atlantic Ocean
A long way away
And many years ago

The lost land of Atlantis lay
Some say it was real
Others say they do not know
Nestled between the Pillars of Hercules

According to the works of Plato
Lived a people powerful, noble and wealthy
Ruled by the mighty Atlas
Son of Poseidon, god of the sea

Many have searched , but alas
None have found, this city of Atlantis
Where Atlas rode a chariot of gold
Pulled by six winged horses

Did Plato write only to fool
It has endured the ages, this mystery
Did the gods destroy the evil rule
The land of Atlantis had become

Was it swallowed by the angry sea
When Atlas, doomed to shoulder his
Celestial globe, no longer able to be
The mighty ruler of Atlantis

The Lost Continent...

Is it of Atlantis or Lumeria? We are told that some traces of Atlantian civilization were inherited by Ancient Egypt. The opening lines presents the poet as a narrator of a monumental event in history told by the great Plato, but queries whether this is a myth or the event actually took place. In some instances, we are made to accept this story as true, but with varying accounts as in Lumeria, Atlantis and even Noah's flood etc. Whatever happened, it is clear that a very high level of civilization was lost and with it we lost part of our heritage. A very good write Linda. Well done. T.

Ahhhh.... a curiousity that has lived for years. Was there an Atlantis? What happened to it? Where is it now? My thoughts - Atlantis is a frame of mind. Whatcha think? Outstanding write, Linda. ~Jess K. ---------------------------------------------------- "Live every day as if it were your last; one day you'll be right...."

Plato

Linda, we have to remember that Plato was a philosopher. He knew he could not speak directly of the powers of the time. In the tale of Atlantis he was speaking of the down fall of a nation. the one he lived in. He could see that the nation thought it self indestructible. I've read the great philosophers and they all where poets. Tell a story of truth in fantasy, isn't it what we do here. WE leave it to the imagination of the reader. I enjoyed the piece, thank you Eddie "We know the mysteries of philosophy and of the art of Holy Poetry" By Jose de Diego
