Winning

Winning

A foggy night, a headlong flight
Terror laden screams
A sobbing cry, a mouth gone dry
Danger walks my dreams

I toss and turn, in fever burn
Sweat soaks into my sheet
A hazy sight, a distant light
Close lies my defeat

A flying bird, a half-heard word
Slumbers ill at ease
Hold me tight, strong the fright
Closing in on me

Now at length, gone my strength
Many battles I have won
With ragged breath, I fight with death
With love I'll win this one.

Janice

Thank you very much. As for true love, it usually hits when you least expect it. Many people I know that found it had quit looking. I hope it finds you soon. *S* Respectfully, Rett: "The only thing observable with the naked eye to exceed the speed of light is rumor" Unknown

Hi Rett

I love the way this piece runs. Musical is the word. Disturbing, but nice images also. Cheers ... Leonard

Howdy Leonard

Thank you. I guess a person could say I am one of those sing-songy type poets. I just like to write that way. I appreciate you reading and taking the time to comment. I haven't spent much time here as of late, but hope to get to spend a little more as I can. You aptly remind me ...

of the time 19 years ago (I think as of this month) a nurse informed me I'm diabetic. Thought my life was over-and-done kaput. The diabetics I'd known to that point were a pretty sorry bunch ... usually depressed, most chronically overweight ... planting one unsteady foot grimly past t'other through what was left of their at least somewhat depressed, debilitated lives. I gained a measure of strength from an unexpected quarter: My innards screamed, "But I'm not ready to die!" I laugh now. I've well spent the time between then and here. Stumbled across a book called Reversing Diabetes by Julian Whitaker (he also authored Reversing Heart Disease), which began a tortuous, sometimes torturous path toward better health. Feel great now. In fact, as well as I have ever. A result of following an unlikely path, one commonly not taken by diabetics. It's no wonder they suffer so. Thanx for a piece well done ... and with such genuinely apt/felt passion. Yours, Chuck

Thank you Chuck

Sometimes life is what you make of it. A person can say boo hoo or do something about it. If and when I go it will be kicking, screaming, biting and fighting. I love life with all it sadness, humor, highs and lows. I love it's beauty and even the ugliness because that only makes the beauty more precious. Good for you sir, way to go! omg

How did I miss this? Such a brilliant write, Rett. Forget about what "100 poems" says: love is a fine topic to write about, just as long as it's not the focal point of every single work. I agree wholeheartedly that what you and 'Nessa have is stronger than anything - and her adoration and support will help you as you heal up. Hope you feel better soon, my friend, and stay safe from those pesky hurricaines - looks like y'all are getting another one with Ike. ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "Live every day as if it were your last; one day you'll be right...."

Well Jess

As you know, Ike was a bugger bear. I agree that love poem, which I like, should not be an every poem thing for most people. Those that it is don't bother me. Most are good or reasonably so. Sooner or later they move on to other things. I used to write a lot of them, but now I only write one now and then. I guess I am getting old. *L* Respectfully, Rett: "The only thing observable with the naked eye to exceed the speed of light is rumor" Unknown

Yep. You can trip over your own feet and die. The smallest distance someone has fallen from a height and died is like 6 inches which is amazing to me. Respectfully, Rett: "The only thing observable with the naked eye to exceed the speed of light is rumor" Unknown
