All Years End

All Years End

The mirror stares back
With a gleam in it's eye
At the man that realizes
Time is passing by

Where he once stood
Looking tall and proud
A stranger stares back
Wearing death's shroud

Mortality is taking
His life and his soul
He stares at the mirror
Seeing himself grown old

Just yesterday it seems
He was running without care
Through green fields of summer
Sunlight in his hair

Now he sees the wrinkles
Time has etched there
Where once his eyes glowed
He sees a cloudy stare

The hair that was so dark
Now flecked with silver gray
As he looks into the mirror
Where time has come to stay

Rosy cheeks in youth
Now grown sallow and pale
No one to listen
No one hears his wail

Time, once a friend
Now the bitter enemy
With each passing moment
It steals his energy

And he stares in horror
At the youth he now lacks
And with righteous indignation
The silvered glass he cracks...

don't you know we get more handsome with each passing year? Crikey, I had an 18y/o make a pass at me the other day. The only reaon I knocked her back was because we would have nothing to talk about in the morning and I had no viagra. cheers, Jess

Thanks you overgrown 14 year old

I have 3 reasons not to mess with them. 1) a red-headed wife. 2) I have to have nose and ear plugs. 3) I can't stand the smell of burning rubber and screaming. Respectfully, Rett: "The only thing observable with the naked eye to exceed the speed of light is rumor" Unknown

Yep, you're only as old as you feel. Some days I feel forty (those days usually get me in trouble) and some days I feel 80 (those days are after I get in trouble) *LOL* I am a stubborn but adaptable old bird. Thank you, I appreciate it. Rett, If a man lives a full

Rett, If a man lives a full life he does not need fear death, because the rest is vanity. The last enemy, death will be brought to nothing 1Corinthians 15:26. That works if you belief. My self I do not fear death, I see it as rest. Here I am making a comment about death I guess I better go out and party, so I can think of something else. LOL I loved the poem. Congrets thought prevoking, not what I want to think about. It's hard enough getting in and out of bed LOL thanks again, Eddie if a man does not know love, he does not know God

I don't have many regrets. I have had a full, richly interesting life. If I could live it over, I would not start at my teenage years for a million dollars. *L* In some ways I probably lived more from age 13 to age twenty than most in a lifetime. Some good, mostly bad. The only big regret I have is that I still remember being young and tend to still try to work as hard and end up in trouble because of that. This is meant more in the line of reflection on the fact that most of us still think of ourselves as young and the mirror reflects the truth. Thank you very very much 1 Corinthians 15:26 is a very astute section of the Bible and very applicable. It's like I was saying earlier, it's the days I feel 40 that get me in trouble and the days I feel 80 are the aftermaths of those 40 feeling days. *LOL* Respectfully, Rett: "The only thing observable with the naked eye to exceed the speed of light is rumor" Unknown

Rett.......

Another story well told, but as a young man I think ageing should be a graceful thing, not looking back and counting regrets.Perhaps it is because I'm still young that I have this view, but I think it is always better to look back and not see the mistakes but the accomplishments,it hurts less that way.Thank you.

Very good thoughts for a young man Easy

and it would be great if you only remembered the accomplishments, but the failures and other things seem to always intrude. *chuckle* Mostly as a young man we believe we have the world by the tail and that nothing will change. When you get old, you have had your nose rubbed in change so many times you KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that change is inevitable. Live your life while you can. Live, love and be happy and savor each and every moment of it. Make as many good memories as you can. It will be worth more than gold when you get old. I still love life my friend, but I do get down once in a while. Look old age in the eye and laugh in it's face. Thank you very much sir, I appreciate it a lot. If you're as young as you feel, I should be dead... Damn, I look good for 104! Remember - the lines only show where the smiles have been. Absolutely LOVE the new piccy! Very cool. ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "I hope no one asks me to show them the ropes; I have no idea where they are. Thanks Janice

I don't know where they come from. I just have this need to write and I tend to look at everything. The smallest little even might set off a poem. This one was set off just by looking in the mirror and seeing how gray my beard was and the circles under my eyes. It might even be set off by dropping a coin or seeing something from a different point of view. Glad you liked it. Respectfully, Rett: "We can all be thankful that Picasso wasn't a plastic surgeon."
