BRING YOUR OWN GLOVES

Bring Your Own Gloves

The profile clearly stated,

“Can we live a little?”

Did you tell them,

Bring your own gloves?

For the weeding of that garden

And the washing of those pots.

The profile clearly stated,

“Solvent & Good looking”,

Looking for the same

I clearly remember, you?

For the buying of that ephemera

And the cooking of that food.

Equally happy in a pub,

In your dressing gown,

On the couch.

The cinema outings sparse?

For the crying of that woman

And the heartbreak of that spouse.

Disappointed expectations -

the feeling comes through loud and clear. I might structure it a little differently - with the personal ad lines first, broken by "Looking for the same . ." then ending with all he didn't say and she didn't foresee. But, that's just me. The goal's well accomplished.

Thanks Arrow, It's my commentary on the disparity between need & expectation...you've cleverly picked up on that! I borrowed a line from my own persoanl experience...first date..."bring your own gloves, we're weeding my garden!" Downhill from there really! Ellie.

Bring Your Own Gloves

Panela, Bring Your Own Gloves is an exquisite poem - heartrending and enveloped in gloom. Use of metaphors is brilliant. I have nothing but praise for it. Mohammad
