I will Be away from Noon today until tomorrow

Sorry folks, I will be going into the hospital about noon today (Wednesday, September 3, 2008) for overnight observation and tests. I will return sometime tomorrow (Thursday, September 4, 2008) provided everything checks out okay. I hope everyone has a good day and I am leaving you with a little tidbit I wrote a good while back. Hope you get a kick out of it.
Respectfully,
Rett

Pre-read note: The street names are genuine streets in Lake Jackson, Texas.
Just a couple of miles from where I live. The locations of the streets aren't accurate as I changed them to fit the story. Kind of a take-off on "The Ball Game" by Abbot and Costello.

Phone Call From a Visitor

(Ring.......Ring.......)" Hello."
"Hi Rett, this is Jim."
"Oh, hello Jim. Good to hear from you."
"Same here, I just got into town and thought I'd drop by for a visit if you're not busy."
"That sounds great Jim, come on over."
'Okay. Hey, I'm at the Shamrock Service Station at Oyster Creek Drive and 288 B.
How do I get to your place from here?"

"It's real easy Jim. Head West on Oyster Creek Drive untill you get to This Way."
"What way?"
"No no, we don't have a What Way."
"Huh? Which way?"
"Sorry Jim, Which Way isn't a street."
"Look Rett, I'm confused. If I'm gonna come that way I need good directions."
"Jim, That Way is a couple of blocks before This Way."
" Now wait a minute...is there any way to get to your house?"
" Not by Any Way, it's two blocks past This Way!"
"Rett, you're gonna have to be clearer! Don't Circle around this way!"
"Jim, you're confusing me! You can't take Circle Way to This Way...Circle Way
goes downtown and This Way goes to my subdivision."
"Huh? You've lost me again Rett. This is the most winding way of giving
directions I've ever heard!"
"No Jim, now you've gotten lost...Winding Way is on the South side of Oyster
Creek Drive and This Way is North."
"Dangit Rett! How can it be on the South side and run North?"
"Jim, You're not listening to me. Here, talk to Vanessa, maybe she can
make you understand!"
"Hi Jim, this is Vanessa. What seems to be the problem?"
"Well Vanessa, Rett was trying to tell me how to get to your house
but, his way doesn't seem to make much sense!"
"Jim, I'll say! His Way is just a short street leading to a church! You can't
get here from there!"
" Groan!, Look Vanessa, can you tell me how we can get on center again?"
"Jim, it'll do no good to take Center Way, it doesn't even come near This Way!"
"Oh, to hell with it! This way, that way, circle way, winding way, his way, WHO
GIVES A DAMN? I AIN'T COMING ANYWAY!" (Hangs up!)
"Wonder what his problem is?"

Good Luck!

Enjoyed this story. "You can't get there from here" was a favorite aphorism of my dad's. Hope the medics like what they see!

An especially fun read here

Thanx, Chuck PS: Observation? Tests? Sounds ominous. Watch 'em closely's my advice. Question everything you can think of to question. My mother died due to cataract surgical procedure. Anesthesia overdose. My father's life came shortened considerably: He fell in the bathtub---and they checked out and treated his shoulder and hip. My sister had told them in the fall he had injured shoulder, hip---and head! They didn't check out the head, which almost killed him that very night. Brain bled extensively after they'd sent him back home, filling his skull and damaging structure. Damage, permanent and otherwise, took at least a few years off his remaining life, I'm sure. To fix him as much as possible, a different hospital broke into his skull, had to take a piece of it out to relieve blood pressure on the brain. And if you think the doctor(s) ate the medical costs of trying to make things right after the horse left the barn, you've got another think acomin' down your pike. That's not all. But then I think that's enough to share for now. I take great pains to look out for myself whenever engaging in doctor/hospital visits. I'll cross fingers an' toes for you. Maybe it'll help, maybe not.

Thanks everyone

I am home now and having to take it easy a few more days. Stint #5 now. Overstressed my heart with all the work and had an irregular heartbeat. Rest, fluids and a different medication seems to have normalized things. I'm a stubborn old bird so I'll be okay. Just got to train myself to not do too much at one time. *sigh* That's damn hard for me. Too used to doing stuff. Thanks to all of you from the bottom of my heart for your concern. I may not be on much for the next 2-3 days as I am a bit sore and feel like I have been drug through a knothole backwards, but should be fine. Now the fun part. I got up early Wednesday morning to check on my neighbors house as he is out of town. I saw a kid coming out of his garage window and tried to catch him, but had a pain in my chest so stopped. After resting a few minutes I checked around the house and found a broken window. Called the police and we went inside and found a couple of his guns missing. I called him and he spoke with the officer and the guns and jewelry were all we could find missing. He and his wife headed home and I noticed a backpack that did not belong. The cops opened it and it and it had the kids name, address, parents names and everything there in it. Turned out to be a 12 year old and a 13 year old whose whole family has a rap sheet a mile long. My neighbor called and let me know everything has been recovered and that the 13 year old told the police that "he didn't care where they sent him". Both my neighbor and I will be at court when he goes to trial. That is the first breaking in this neighborhood in the 27 years I have been here.
