Just curious

I have little knowledge of Japanese literature, so I may not be the best to appreciate your poem. Tell me, What is this truth revealed in a sea of silence. Sometime, I find it difficult to express what I know. Words seem to distort this 'truth' and what comes out is an imperfect form of what lies within. For example, try to tell someone about God. It is a difficult thing to do because, the more words you speak, the more you confuse your listeners and at the end, confuse yourself. I like the philosophy in the poem and its brevity. Well done and best wishes.

Hi Reflexion

Thanks a million for taking the time to stop by and read. I do agree with you that words distort the truth. That is why, in order to really understand the deeper truths, we have to approach it with a silent mind. After all words are the creation of men; silence was always there. In the Hindu Philosophy, it is believed that if a vessel (meaning mind) is full you cannot put anything into it but if it is empty (meaning silent) the great truth- untarnished by our emotions and prejudices - will descend and fill the void, filling one with the bliss of omniscience. Silence has always inspired me. Cheers ... Leonard

Hi Leonard...

love your poem... He who listens.. learns.. I believe that's it... or that's what I got anyway.. something I try to instill in my children.. but it took me so long to learn not to shout out what I think suddenly... and I still do it at times so ... have I learned.. ouch... Richard good to see you posting..

Hi Richard

It's great hearing from you. Yes, that's one of the aspects because, in order to listen, one does have to keep the mind silent. Thanks a million. Cheers ... Leonard

Leonard, Lessons that we learn as children come to light as we get older, and come to the understanding of listening and not just talking. Truth is sometime that is earned, you can not buy it with all the treasures of the world. Only through comtemplation of the world around us can we find enlightement I love the simplicity of these few words that open a treasure of thought thank you so much. Eddie if a man does not know love, he does not know God

Hi Eddie

Thanks a million for your most analytical comment. Indeed it is through contemplation of the world around us that we can find enlightenment. This something we must never forget. Thanks again and cheers ... Leonard

I could paraphrase ...

a well-known proverb: that truth is in the eye of the beholder ... but only if the beholder allows it there. Ergo, the benefit(s) become then possible to be realized from a time of mindful (mindless(?)) silence. Masterful write. Masterful insight. Thanx, Chuck
