A Friendship Lost

A Friendship Lost

We were two, but one as friends
we picked four-leaf clovers on the way from lunch
had loads of fun playing jacks.
We walk the school grounds, ran from boys,
jump rope and played hopscotch.

We did our class work together
had scores of private talks
as friends often do
fought over nil
and still found each other at recess

Then one-day dad moved again, out of town
I left you behind as we advance the eight grade
sensing the lost commencing inside
I knew it would be, our last day as two,
but one as friends

A new school, new faces
no friend to walk or hang out with
alone among the crowd, I became a wanderer
I thought about my friend back home
when we were two, but one as friends

Four years later, I’m now back home,
surrounded by friends, I grew up with
It’s, my senior year, searching high and low
for the friend in the bag of my heart
hidden among  faces, older and wiser

We come together this blissful day
joyful to make up, the lost years
once we join up, my heart was in glee
at the words, I’m Enisamoht remember me?
My friend, we are again two, but one as friends

Short lived I soon learned, with a heavy heart
I saw in her eyes, she drop the bag
when she and the friends we walked with, deserted me
running away when my back was turn
my friend in the bag, I dropped that day

A wanderer, remembering the days I spent away
longing to return to the familiar faces
that had become apart of me
I yearn to be among those of my teen years
because we were no longer two, but one as friends

I silently embrace those cherished times you had forgotten,
when we were two, but one as friend, forever departed

Thanks Easy

Smiles:) Barbara i have gotten over the hurt and moved on long ago, still consider her my friend after we talk a few years ago never bringing up the school years. Was thinking about her and had to write how I felt then in a poem. Thanks for the compliment. I always try to be me in my poetry.
