Insomnia's Need

The lucky of us take for granted
Air
Water
Food
Shelter
Love

But I need some fucking sleep!
Oh god I need some sleep.

This wondr'ous  brain
That makes some fine poetry,
That ponders on the fate of the world
the nature of the infinite
And the origins of the universe
Won't let me sleep

It has tortured me through three degrees
Working night-shift
Fucking around and playing up
(that was fun)
Now won't let me keep a job
But just let me get some sleep!

Let me be retarded,
Let me even go hungry now and then
But for fuck's sake let me sleep!

It used to be a better brain,
I have hurt it much,
Just trying to make the fucker giver me sleep!

Just sleep,
That's all I ask,
Just
Some
sleep.

Sing for your supper my friend, dance until daybreak, let the night hold you in her embrace, let this poem written by the sands of time rock you to sleep. ;-) Anna

School

Will mess your up. It was a long time before my internal clock got right. Still have trouble at times. Worked full time nights, and went to school full time days. Got 2 degrees, and now I'm too tired to care.

A killer line

always there makes me burst out laughing. The first line of the second stanza. I'm always surprised and laughing at some point in your work Jess. Maybe a few six packs and a woman or different woman or even women ::chuckles:: Mark

Raw, really raw

Possibly the rawest poem I've red up here. I take all of my provisions for granted, but after reading this, I might think otherwise.

Thanks Linda, Mark, Samuel

L. school didn't cause the insomnia, it's been lifelong, was just able to work with it when I was younger. M. Glad to make you laugh but six packs and women don't work, believe me I have tried many times, LOL. Only dangerous and highly addictive sleeping pills work and I avoid them except in extemity extremis. S. Raw is high praise indeed to me, thank you. cheers, Jess

much enjoyed your write... it seems to be a common occurance for poets to be up in the middle of the night... writing or scratching our heads trying to... relating to your words in the middle of the night here Jess... Richard

It seems to be contagious

The neopoet site keeps me engaged and some time I stay awake all night and in some accassion, afraid that I was going to get ill if I did not have a good sleep. Yes, I agree with you that in its depth, it makes death look attractive. Anxiety and excitement can also make one sleepless, even lifestyle. This is a very good write, Jess. Best wishes. T.

insomnia's need

hello my friend Well meet another who does not sleep much. I have worked shift work for the last 17yrs but i have always had trouble sleeping as my mind never switches off. sometimes up until two in the morning and have to get up at four is it worth trying to sleep, Hell No. So this site is a great comfort Ha! I may sleep three - four hours but never really fully asleep. I keep a pad and pen by my side always so i do not miss a word. As you see i am still up, you made me laugh so. I always say "YOU CAN SLEEP ENOUGH WHEN YOU ARE DEAD" so live on. I feel we poets are totally insane as we have no time clock but are motivated pressured with pen in hand the paper waits. we cannot rest until it is done. But it never ends. To get you brain in gear read some of my frends work i have just introduced him to this site and he will give you a raw critique and i am sure will make you laugh and give you words to relate too. His name is W C WAMPLER
