Clouded Gaze

Do you see the man
I used to be,
as you gaze
into my eyes?

Or does the man
I have become
leave you
asking why?

Scalpel and surgeon
left me no relief
I try to deal
with daily pain
and the mental grief.

I hope you see the man
I used to be,
as you gaze
into my eyes.

This poem touches me deeply

as I've had to answer this question today. For me, it is "Yes, I wonder why you must suffer." "No, I never wonder why I continue to love you." I'll leave the literary criticism to others. Thanks for posting.

Arrow thank you for your comment, true love is just that, no matter the circumstances. I would have never guessed that you have had to experience this situation. Good luck to you~

Janice...

I don't know what the situation is, but every man will end up having those thoughts if he is lucky enough to live and lucky enough to have someone that stays with him long enough... Clouded Gaze is an excellent piece! My respect for you has gone up yet another notch... Your friend Richard

Richard, you are truly a friend here on the site and I appreciate you. I guess it doesn't matter what situation we are in, everyone can relate to the people we used to be when younger, and as we age or have medical difficulities, the people we are today.True love with weather the storms~

touching me deeply, as deep as ur incision

very well written. u noe, sometimes the medicinal world may be frustrating and the procedure, especially the surgery can be a total flop. but u have to count ur blessing for u still have the golden chance to be alive. what if the surgeon accidentally cut ur main vein? u wont be here. so remember, u are not the most unfortunate one alive. there are thousands of people out there who face bigger problems than yours. take lebanese as example. excellent one from u. 5 thumbs up to u, my dear friend

Zarul, I count my blessings each and every day and am thankful for what I have. This poem was meant to portray how my husband feels each day as he struggles, and I know there is always someone worse off than him.Thank you for taking the time to read this and comment I apprecciate it~

Liked the poem Janice

Its good for all of us to relate to old age. I have never had back pain though, so I can only sympathize with your husband. You really are a strong, loyal woman to stick by him, you must have been raised by a mother who is very strong and empathetic. My prayers and support go out to you today... Patty

Janice, My Heart goes out to you and yours

I'm facing the reality of age, eye sight weakens, swelling limbs and crumbling knee's, hate pills, It really does make you see life very differently, You have portrayed the thought and feeling very well, Life eh.....it's just a bitch.....and then some, Kindest regards Peter ~~~~~~~~~Creativity Is to think more efficiently~~~~~~~~~~

Janice

Being a man with heart trouble, Rheumatoid arthritis and the lovely little disease called Gout I really can dimly understand how he feels and you too. Sooner or later I will be in a wheelchair IF it doesn't kill me first. To know you can't do what you used to do and the bitterness of it and old age creeping like a cat really slaps you into depression. I have been blessed by a woman that has stuck with me and still does even though sometimes I can't even stand to be around myself. *L* THAT is a true miracle. You hang in there as it means the world. Bless you my friend. ((friendly hug)) Respectfully, Rett: "If life is a bowl of cherries, why am I in the pits?" Erma Bombeck

Clouded Gaze

Rett, I wish both you and your wife much happiness in the coming years. It is hard for someone who has had great strength all his life, to succumb to a life where even housework is painful, but I still count my blessings every day. God Bless you both! Friendly Hugs back~
