Saving Mother

Looking at a picture of my Mother
on my bedroom wall
When she was so young, it was a time when
I did not know her at all

A pretty little woman with a flashy smile
It occurred to me that I should warn her
Dear Mother ! Run!  Run while you still can
For soon you shall meet the one we must call father

He will steal your happiness
And  shred your dreams with his unkind hands
He will come as a wolf in sheep's clothing
Then slowly in your life, start his cruel demands

You will shed many tears, as your gentle soul
Will not allow you to do more
Behind your smile you will hide your fear
Your broken heart will never again soar

Run! Take your youth, your gaiety and your beauty
with you, run while there is yet still time
I will understand if you stay in your youthful yesteryear
And leave your sorrowful future behind

Such a sad story my friend

Life has so many wrong turns and hidden traps. I had the female wolf that masqueraded as a pious sheep and turned out to be constantly in heat. Any male was her target. I wish you mother could have been saved too as my mama finally got the backbone to leave my daddy. Many years after she should have. Good write Linda. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby!" Rett 2008.

Sad poem..... My daughter used to watch for me out the window and wish she could warn me about the mood her dad was in. I left him when she was five, never again did my kids want to see him. We were talking about this she has children of her own now. But she pretty much said the same thing, you portrayed. My heart touches you..... Patty

I feel a lump in my throat...

Linda I feel a lump in my throat as I read along. The child suffers more in a broken relationship while the parents try to live with their mistakes. The last two lines brings the pains to the fore. Would it have been better for our parents' youth to be intact without us? Linda, You are an enigma and a gift to your mother, a support prepared for a time such as this and above all a blessing for the weak. Look back to the happy moments and the weight of wrongs will be lightened. May you know peace and happiness. I love the poem. Best wishes.

if only we could

but alas... you've still got her picture before it all began, this is a very good write with an excellent theme... and it shows a love so deep for your Mom that you would give up being here to save her from the misery... now that is love! Richard
