Chasing Shadows

Chasing Shadows

A hazy movement passes by,
darting through the night,
like a shadow from the clouds,
a silent arrow's flight.

It's chasing after something,
perhaps it's just a dream,
or a flickering of shadow
like a ripple in a stream.

It's in pursuit of something,
a longing that can't be seen.
It forges ever onward
like a thought that's never been.

It's fleeting like a memory,
from another place and time.
A will-o-the-wisp that's running,
after something undefined.

It's just a whisper of a sound,
like wind across my ears;
a dream, a hope or memory,
that's been following me for years.

I hope that it is worth it,
for it preys upon my fears,
like something missing deep within
the shadows of my tears.

Cool !

I enjoyed this, however the lack of stanzas makes me feel old, I think I need glasses, Damn! I found some gray hairs today too! Oh well, such is life. Good write (Can you space it up though?) LOL Sincerely, Mark

Dang Mark

You must have found the ones I lost. I have plenty to spare right now. *LOL* You think it would be better in stanzas? Glad you enjoyed it. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby!" Rett 2008.

Thank you Janice

I am glad you enjoyed this one. Just had my thoughts running away with me today. Rett: "Life is like a beach. Salty, gritty, somewhat fishy and at other times, downright crabby!" Rett 2008.

I think what I liked most were some things mentioned that doesn't immediately make sense: "thought that’s never been" - well then it's not a thought yet, eh? "shadows of my tears." - tears don't really have shadows. It was little things like those that immediately boosted my interest in the poem, and made it more creative. Nice job! ~Jess ---------------------------------------------------- "Just 'cause you have one, doesn't mean you need to be one....."

Thanks Biscuit

I was trying to be somewhat metaphysical with it. I guess I succeeded. I am glad you caught that. I have never seen a shadow from a tear. I'm glad you found "a thought that's never been. I really liked those two lines myself along with "a memory from another place and time". I appreciate the comments. Respectfully, Rett: "Life is like a beach.
